Growing up, my mother exposed me to every type of food, spice, flavor, and consistency as early as I can remember! I was 15 when we moved onto our sailboat, in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico, and I learned a lot about food there. As an adult, I have traveled in Italy, France, Germany, Guatemala and Turkey, to name my current favorite places, especially regarding cuisine.
My favorite things to cook
Anything fresh and healthy, and tasty of course. Sometimes I give in to flavor over calories... I LOVE pasta and breads, although I'm trying to cut those out. I recently decided to switch to a Flexitarian diet. We'll see how that goes!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I remember my mother making green chile stew at least once a week! We ate a wide variety of foods, Mexican, Indian (when my father was at work!), Swedish, Italian, Asian... you name it, we had it! Every time I come home I ask her to make either Chicken Enchiladas or Chicken and Pineapple Curry. So good!
My cooking triumphs
I recently started making an Insalata Caprese, which I am very proud of. My fiance LOVES it, which is my triumph! He's never been opposed to eating garlic, but I add a lot of diced garlic and let it set for a bit before serving it, and we both laugh at how long it lingers on our breath...
My cooking tragedies
Many... Oh so many. I think you have to have a lot of tragedies to learn though. Something as simple as forgetting to chill rice when making fried rice, and having it turn out gloppy can be quite tragic in fact!
