Sirloin Tips and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2014
I put this in the slow cooker and it turned out great. Instead of 16 oz of canned mushrooms, I used 16 oz fresh and 2 oz can with juice. I would have went with just fresh but thought that something maybe lost with total exclusion. Next time I will go with just fresh. I don't think more wine is needed. I like to cook with wine and this had enough flavor as written.

Pumpkin Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2011
My husband LOVED it, he already wants me to make it for his family next week for the holidays. I am still unsure if I used the correct pumpkin which is why I gave it 4 stars as I am not sure if it would taste better or different with a sugar pumpkin, but indeed it was good. The pumpkin came out with a spaghetti squash stringiness to the meat (I have never cooked pumpkin to eat so I wasn't sure what to expect). We didn't add as much bouillon and omitted the salt as we aren't big fans and it still had enough flavor for us to enjoy. I actually included the tomatoes with the initial stovetop simmer and used italian style canned tomatoes (basil, garlic and oregano already added) and it was still good. Makes me wonder if this could be a nice crock pot meal and add to the pumpkin after work for an hour. Great presentation piece and makes something very fancy of a plain old comfort food.

Big Germans

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2011
I have given this recipe many attempts, always convinced I am doing something wrong as I have read so many good reviews on this site and others. I find it to be dense and egg-y, more like a heavy crepe than a pancake. Maybe that's what a German pancake is but this failed in my attempt to find a Weekend Family favorite. My kids wouldn't finish it even with powdered sugar or syrup.

Easy Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
This was my first attempt at a Pepper Steak (my hubby's top 3 favs) and it name doesn't lie. Although very easy to make it was still tasty. The only change I made was I started with a beef bouillon as that is what I had on hand and added minced garlic to the skillet while stir-frying the beef as family preference for garlic. Thanks to this recipe the hubs will be enjoying one of his favorites more often.

Sirloin with Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
Very good sauce. Used a whole package of mushrooms, beef broth and Chianti wine. Added a very little amount of starch per other reviews but I don't think it helped as much as just letting the sauce reduce. I chose not to cook the mushrooms prior to adding the other two ingredients but let them all work together at once it turned out great. Will probably try this with other cuts of beef

Butternut Squash Soup

Reviewed: May 2, 2010
Made it the second time tonight and it is even better than the first. Only change was the amount of cream cheese (1/2 the amount per the suggestion of many).
