Rich and Creamy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was yummy! To be fair, I did change it a bit. I used beef shank bones simmered for several hours, shredded the meat and used the broth in the recipe. I also used a little extra broth and milk to thin the sauce. I used white wine instead of red, since I prefer the flavor. I cut back on the red pepper flakes and there was still a bit of kick, even with approximately 1 tsp. I also added 1 Tbsp of red wine vinegar. There is no need to follow the instructions quite so closely. I just cooked the meat, cooked the veggies together, made the sauce and threw everything together! It was really good and this will be my standard recipe from now on!

Peppered Shrimp Alfredo

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2013
Yummy! I followed the recipe, except I made my own alfredo sauce and used parmesan cheese instead of romano cheese (skipped adding the 1/2 c. cream and cheese at end and put cream and cheese in my homemade alfredo sauce instead). I also added fresh lemon juice before serving. Soooo good--my husband raved about it!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2013
This was SO good! I used frozen green beans and lightly boiled them first before mixing into the sauce. I substituted half full fat homemade yogurt instead of using the full amount of sour cream. I also used whole grain crackers in the place of the buttery round crackers. Everything else I did as mentioned. I think using the real onions really made the dish taste much better--please don't substitute dried onions if at all possible!

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2012
This was good! And so cheap and easy to make, also. I did mix the egg and cheese together, and add a splash of milk before stirring into hot pasta. I also added just a tad more olive oil to the finished product. Used fresh parmesan and added the white wine. I will definitely make it again!

Fried Chicken with Creamy Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2012
This was incredible! Such good fried chicken. I don't make it much, but this is the best recipe I've tried. I followed to a tee except cut the garlic salt in half and used garlic powder instead, and substituted ground savory for poultry seasoning. I also used less oil, and part olive oil. Served with potato wedges and green beans. The gravy was out of this world good! My husband loved the meal.

Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
This was yummy, and had lots of protein, so it kept me feeling full for along time. I changed the recipe somewhat, using regular milk and yogurt instead of soy milk, and using a bit of vanilla for extra flavor. I also put in a spoonful of cocoa powder, which adds a nice optional chocolatey flavor.

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2012
This is AMAZING! We loved it. I seriously have an addiction. I did everything pretty much the same as the recipe. I doubled it and that made like 9 large pancake-sized patties. I used one very large onion and about 3/4 cup parsley for the doubled recipe, and did not double the cumin. Everything else I did the same. I think the coriander is quite important to the overall flavor. I also used half breadcrumbs half flour, since I did not have enough bread. I fried in vegetable and olive oil mixed, and only had about 1/2 inch oil and flipped them half way through. It worked fine! I put salt in the yogurt sauce, but would not next time. You have to try these!!!

Sausage Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2012
This was great! I did just about follow the recipe, but I used chicken sausage instead of regular, and added a bit more olive oil. I also used fresh spinach instead of frozen, fresh tomatoes instead of canned and fresh basil. I also tossed in 1/2 cup of cubed mozzarella since I was trying to get rid of it. I'm sure the fresh ingredients could only improve it, but it was a wonderful recipe and I'm sure I'll make it again!

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was AMAZING. Sooo good! I used fresh jalapenos instead of canned (de seeded) and I used real chicken stock and leftover chicken off the bone. That makes all the difference, I think. I simmered it all day, adding broth occasionally, and then added the cheese at the very end. Served with sour cream, and it was so good. My husband was raving about it. Definitely keeping this recipe!

Five Flavor Pound Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was yummy! I did not use all the flavorings, simply because I did not have them, but that I am sure would have made even better. I just used approx 5 tsp of homemade vanilla instead. I also made a chocolate sauce with semi sweet chocolate instead of the really sweet glaze. The combination was delicious, and not too sweet.

Beef Bulgogi

Perfect! This is so good. I served it on rice with a bit of sweet and sour sauce on the side. Maybe not authentic, but it was really good!

The Best Thai Coconut Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2013
This recipe is amazing!!! I don’t often review, but this one deserves more than 5 stars, if that were possible! It’s pretty versatile. I followed the recipe when I made it last night, minus the lemongrass (which I didn’t have). I subbed lemon juice instead. I added garlic and extra curry paste. I used chicken instead of shrimp, and used coconut oil in addition to olive oil. I also use REAL chicken stock instead of storebought stuff, which really makes it super-healthy, especially in the cold weather! I served it over rice noodles. No matter how I vary it, it is so yummy every time I make it! Definitely a standard at our house now!

This was exceptional! I did everything just like the recipe stated, except I added a couple dashes of lemon pepper. It was really, really good, and very fast and easy. I highly recommend it.

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was so good! Very tasty soup, and it gets better if you cook it for a long time; makes great leftovers, too. I used part canned tomatoes, since I didn't have enough fresh, and I used homemade beef stock (which makes it even better). I definitely recommend!

Mulligatawny Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2014
This soup was incredibly flavorful and delicious! I would certainly make it again. I did all just as stated, only added some extra veggies and apples. I baked a chicken in advance and chopped up the meat to use in the soup (and I also used real chicken stock as the base). We served it with sour cream instead of regular cream, since that is what we had available. I also added a dash or two of white wine vinegar in mine, since I love my soup with a bit of 'tang'.

Delicious Beef Tongue Tacos

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2012
This tasted just like a real Mexican restaurant! I was skeptical of beef tongue, but a friend gave me one, so I tried this recipe. I added some dried oregano and a little bit of cumin and chili powder at the end. I cooked it in the crockpot for about 7 hours on high. The salsa is really good too (I substituted jalapenos for serranos and deseeded first).

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
I give this five stars! My husband and I really liked it. I did everything according to the recipe, except adding some chopped green onions and a few dashes of Chinese hot sauce at the very end. I did not have enough fresh ginger, so I put in about 1 tbsp and added about 1/2 tsp or so of powdered. I think 3 tbsp of ginger might make it too strong. I also found I did not need quite as much oil as called for. 1/3 cup or so was plenty for me. It had great flavor and we both loved the crispy texture of the beef. I will definitely make this again!

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2010
This was excellent! I made a little extra of the glaze, using some maple sugar rather than all brown sugar. I also did not cook the chops quite through, and then added them in and cooked them for like 5 or 6 minutes on med-low, mostly covered, and constantly turning and spooning glaze on them. The apples themselves were amazing. I would put more in next time.

Lo Mein Noodles

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2014
This was so yummy! I used gluten free tamari sauce (as a soy sauce substitute) and added some fish sauce and hot Asian chili sauce as well, for extra flavor. I also used real grated ginger, rather than powdered. I added a few eggs at the end and sauteed them quickly to cook them (as an alternative to using meat). The resulting sauce was flavorful, as well as creamy and filling, thanks to the eggs. It's a delicious and flexible recipe; I will definitely will make it again!

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
These were so good! My husband and I loved them. I used fresh garlic and cut back a little on the cayenne. I also put in 1 Tbsp of fresh onion, instead of the onion powder, and a tiny bit of salt. They were great, and not very difficult!
