Mulligatawny Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2014
This soup was incredibly flavorful and delicious! I would certainly make it again. I did all just as stated, only added some extra veggies and apples. I baked a chicken in advance and chopped up the meat to use in the soup (and I also used real chicken stock as the base). We served it with sour cream instead of regular cream, since that is what we had available. I also added a dash or two of white wine vinegar in mine, since I love my soup with a bit of 'tang'.

The Best Thai Coconut Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2013
This recipe is amazing!!! I don’t often review, but this one deserves more than 5 stars, if that were possible! It’s pretty versatile. I followed the recipe when I made it last night, minus the lemongrass (which I didn’t have). I subbed lemon juice instead. I added garlic and extra curry paste. I used chicken instead of shrimp, and used coconut oil in addition to olive oil. I also use REAL chicken stock instead of storebought stuff, which really makes it super-healthy, especially in the cold weather! I served it over rice noodles. No matter how I vary it, it is so yummy every time I make it! Definitely a standard at our house now!

Peppered Shrimp Alfredo

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2013
Yummy! I followed the recipe, except I made my own alfredo sauce and used parmesan cheese instead of romano cheese (skipped adding the 1/2 c. cream and cheese at end and put cream and cheese in my homemade alfredo sauce instead). I also added fresh lemon juice before serving. Soooo good--my husband raved about it!

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2013
This was decent. I wavered between 3 and 4 stars but my husband liked it better than me so I gave it 4! I followed the recipe exactly except I accidentally doubled the tomato sauce, using 16 oz rather than 8 oz. It was very soupy with that, so I had to add a bit of cornstarch at the end to thin it out. It was good, in my opinion, but not GREAT. It seemed to be missing something, though I am not sure what... I think it would have been better with fresh tomatoes and other vegetables mixed in. Maybe fresh curry paste rather than powder? Anyway, I might make it again, but I may try tweaking it a bit. Forgot to add that my 2 year old son, who is somewhat picky, ate a bunch of the chicken, so it was a hit with him! I like the fact that it isn't overly spicy for young children.

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2013
This was SO good! I used frozen green beans and lightly boiled them first before mixing into the sauce. I substituted half full fat homemade yogurt instead of using the full amount of sour cream. I also used whole grain crackers in the place of the buttery round crackers. Everything else I did as mentioned. I think using the real onions really made the dish taste much better--please don't substitute dried onions if at all possible!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2012
This was a solid, very good potato soup recipe. I did make some changes. I used part yogurt and grated cheddar cheese rather than the full amount of milk. I used a mixture of homemade chicken and ham stock (much better flavor) and extra onions. Other than that, I did it according to the recipe. I'm sure I"ll make it again!

Real Italian Calzones

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2012
This was a very good recipe. I used extra ricotta, and also chopped up fresh mozzarella and added some shredded parmesan (instead of cheddar, which i didn't think fit the Italian theme!). They came out very well and I will make them again sometime!

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2012
This was good! And so cheap and easy to make, also. I did mix the egg and cheese together, and add a splash of milk before stirring into hot pasta. I also added just a tad more olive oil to the finished product. Used fresh parmesan and added the white wine. I will definitely make it again!

Fried Chicken with Creamy Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2012
This was incredible! Such good fried chicken. I don't make it much, but this is the best recipe I've tried. I followed to a tee except cut the garlic salt in half and used garlic powder instead, and substituted ground savory for poultry seasoning. I also used less oil, and part olive oil. Served with potato wedges and green beans. The gravy was out of this world good! My husband loved the meal.

Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
This was yummy, and had lots of protein, so it kept me feeling full for along time. I changed the recipe somewhat, using regular milk and yogurt instead of soy milk, and using a bit of vanilla for extra flavor. I also put in a spoonful of cocoa powder, which adds a nice optional chocolatey flavor.

Delicious Beef Tongue Tacos

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2012
This tasted just like a real Mexican restaurant! I was skeptical of beef tongue, but a friend gave me one, so I tried this recipe. I added some dried oregano and a little bit of cumin and chili powder at the end. I cooked it in the crockpot for about 7 hours on high. The salsa is really good too (I substituted jalapenos for serranos and deseeded first).

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2012
This is AMAZING! We loved it. I seriously have an addiction. I did everything pretty much the same as the recipe. I doubled it and that made like 9 large pancake-sized patties. I used one very large onion and about 3/4 cup parsley for the doubled recipe, and did not double the cumin. Everything else I did the same. I think the coriander is quite important to the overall flavor. I also used half breadcrumbs half flour, since I did not have enough bread. I fried in vegetable and olive oil mixed, and only had about 1/2 inch oil and flipped them half way through. It worked fine! I put salt in the yogurt sauce, but would not next time. You have to try these!!!

Sausage Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2012
This was great! I did just about follow the recipe, but I used chicken sausage instead of regular, and added a bit more olive oil. I also used fresh spinach instead of frozen, fresh tomatoes instead of canned and fresh basil. I also tossed in 1/2 cup of cubed mozzarella since I was trying to get rid of it. I'm sure the fresh ingredients could only improve it, but it was a wonderful recipe and I'm sure I'll make it again!

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was AMAZING. Sooo good! I used fresh jalapenos instead of canned (de seeded) and I used real chicken stock and leftover chicken off the bone. That makes all the difference, I think. I simmered it all day, adding broth occasionally, and then added the cheese at the very end. Served with sour cream, and it was so good. My husband was raving about it. Definitely keeping this recipe!

Amish Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
We really enjoyed this, but I did not love it, so I will give it only 4 stars! Still, it was really good and not too hard to make. I substituted provolone for swiss, so perhaps we would have liked it better with the swiss?

Five Flavor Pound Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was yummy! I did not use all the flavorings, simply because I did not have them, but that I am sure would have made even better. I just used approx 5 tsp of homemade vanilla instead. I also made a chocolate sauce with semi sweet chocolate instead of the really sweet glaze. The combination was delicious, and not too sweet.

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was a very good recipe. I would give it five stars, but I am not a huge fan of rosemary! My husband and mom loved it, though. Very tasty dipped in olive oil. I also made this without a bread machine. I just let it rise, punched it down, shaped into two loaves on a pan, let it rise again, and baked for about 1/2 hour.

Perfect! This is so good. I served it on rice with a bit of sweet and sour sauce on the side. Maybe not authentic, but it was really good!

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This was so good! Very tasty soup, and it gets better if you cook it for a long time; makes great leftovers, too. I used part canned tomatoes, since I didn't have enough fresh, and I used homemade beef stock (which makes it even better). I definitely recommend!

This was okay, but not great. The flavor was too strong for us. We didn't love it.
