Apple-Cranberry Crisp

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2014
Followed the recipe exactly and I was completely underwhelmed by this recipe (as was the rest of the family). It just didn't turn out for some reason. It was watery and unappetizing. No one even ate the leftovers. Will not make this again.

Swedish Meatballs (Svenska Kottbullar)

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2014
Absolutely perfect! I followed the recipe exactly except I used 1/2 pork, 1/2 beef since that's what I had on hand. (I don't think it affected flavor/texture.) This was delicious!! I made a double batch and even though it's a lot of work and pretty time intensive, it was worth all the effort.

Slow Cooker Pinto Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2014
Delicious! I've made this twice now and my kids, husband and I all love it! The second time I made it I used just 1/2 the ham because I thought it had a bit too much the first time and it was perfect with less. Other than that, the seasonings are exactly right!

Simple recipe and was tasty - I will make this again with only 1 Tbs of butter.

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2014
Turned out delicious! However, I'm VERY glad I checked it at 20 minutes in, because I would have had charred potatoes if I hadn't taken them out. I ended up turning all the potatoes and putting it back in the oven at 350 on the top rack for the remaining 10 minutes. They turned out fine with that one adjustment.

Excellent! This has become a family favorite and my go-to roast recipe. Have made this many times now and it is wonderful every time.

Buddy's and Bubba's Homemade Dog Food

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2012
I love making this for my dogs. I completely replaced our regular dry dog food with this recipe for the past couple months. It's a much healthier alternative and it seems to be helping with the dogs' allergies.

Creamed Spinach II

Reviewed: May 23, 2012
This turned out delicious. The only change I made was to use fresh, crushed garlic and then a bit of salt in place of garlic salt. The whole family liked it.

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: May 23, 2012
This is a good starting point, but it was kind of bland when I used just the recipe. My 6-yr-old son tasted it and suggested sprinkling it with lemon juice. That did the trick! It was delicious.

Wilted Spinach with Cherries and Goat Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
Delicious! I didn't have cherries so I used cranberries, but I don't think it made much difference to the end result. This is definitely a keeper! I've thought of a few variations I'd like to try too - maybe some crumbled bacon or some balsamic vinegar for a more savory version.

Broccoli With Lemon Almond Butter

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
I made this for a large family gathering and it was delicious! However, I did as was recommended by other reviewers and cut the lemon juice to about 1/2 what the recipe calls for. Also, I put the butter and almonds in a pan and browned them a little. This is definitely a keeper for our family!

Chili Rubbed Pork Tenderloin With Apricot Ginger Glaze

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2011
This was very good. I loved the spice rub on the pork (which I adjusted for serving size). WORD OF WARNING - I oven-roasted one large, almost 4-pound tenderloin (which is what I had on hand), and the glaze plus the barbecue sauce kind of overpowered the rub. So, if you're using a larger tenderloin I would recommend adding an extra portion of the rub to the glaze to enhance the flavor and heat. This was definitely a delicious recipe and I wish I had had the right size of tenderloins because i think it would have been perfect.

Finnish Summer Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2011
I was not impressed with this recipe. The flavors just did not seem to blend together very well. If I fixed this again I would leave out the carrots and use about 1/3 the amount of green beans. I liked the flavor of the broth with the onions but I ended up picking most of them out because they were owerpowering. My final suggestion wold be perhaps to use a few more potatoes. I doubt I will fix this again.

Rosemary-Scented Pork Loin Stuffed With Roasted Garlic, Dried Apricots and Cranberries and Port Wine Pan Sauce

Reviewed: May 9, 2011
I thought this recipe was OK. It seemed like more trouble than it was worth. It tasted almost identical to the Garlic and Rosemary Pork Roast I usually make but without the added chore of stuffing with cranberries, etc. I probably will not bother with this recipe again. Could probably get the effect of all this work with a simple apricot glaze.

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
I did not care for this recipe. It was WAY too much sausage and the gravy was extremely thick. I didn't enjoy this at all.

Autumn Pot Roast

Wonderful! This made the most awesome gravy! Have already fixed this more than once and it got rave reviews from the family. In the last batch, I substituted sweet potatoes for white potatoes and also added some whole okra. Delicious!!

Asparagus with Parmesan Crust

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2010
I didn't care for this recipe. I like all of the ingredients separately, but did not care for the balsamic vinegar with the asparagus - it really overwhelmed the asparagus. I think I will stick to steaming with a bit of butter and salt.
