About this Cook
Mostly I like to cook meals that don't take a lot of time to prepare and I usually like to have a desert at the end of the meal. I enjoy cooking for my family. Some of the things I like to do are golf, birdwatching, cross-stitching and enjoying my grandchildren.
My favorite things to cook
Even though it is a lot of work I enjoy preparing holiday meals like Thanksgiving and Christmas for a large group of relatives.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family tradition is Christ- mas dinner. Growing up my mother always baked a hugh bone-in ham (saved the bone for bean soup) with whole cloves stuck in it and topped with pineapple slices, sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes, corn, noodles in the ham broth and of course home made pies. My father and I were the only ones that would eat mince meat pie but my mom made sure there was one along with the pumpkin and cherry pies. Although I don't make the pies from scratch I still continue to serve the same thing every Christmas because it brings back such happy memories of family.
My cooking triumphs
I can't think of any particular one but anytime I cook something and someone tells me it is good and they enjoyed it, it is a triump to me.
My cooking tragedies
I wouldn't call them tragedies but rather mistakes new cooks usually make and my first one, which I think a lot of people do, was to leave the package of turkey parts in the neck of the turkey when I made my first one. One other time I was making a recipe that called for one fourth teaspoon of cayenne pepper. My husband kept saying not to use that much because it is really hot. I kept saying "but that is what it calls for" and went ahead and used the whole amount. Needless to say it was so hot that we couldn't eat it and ended up going out to eat.

Georgia Peach Homemade Ice Cream
This recipe was so easy. I had to take something to a picnic and was tired of taking the same old thing so I decided to make ice cream and surprise everyone. Everyone loved it and even came back for seconds. I would make it again.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip
This was a wonderful recipe. Very simple. The beer added a wonderful flavor. Instead of using this recipe for sandwiches I served it as a regular dinner menu with garlic mashed potatoes and green bean. It was so tender it could be cut with a fork. My husband and I loved it.
