About this Cook
I enjoy cooking as a hobby, and I like to try new recipes as much as cook my old favorites. I usually go by the book the first time I cook something, but I'm starting to improvise more as a I get comfortable with a new recipe or style of cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love to grill chicken, pork, salmon, and steak. I also like to cook recipes with lots of prep work (cutting veggies, measuring spices, etc.).
My favorite family cooking traditions
I like to cook nice meals for my wife on the rare occasion we can have a meal together without kids. I also love to have my kids help me cook.
My cooking triumphs
Passing on my love of cooking to my kids.
My cooking tragedies
A very soupy creme brulee I tried to make for my mother for her birthday. Chicken and shrimp kabobs, before I realized that the chicken would take much longer to cook than the shrimp!

Chicken Enchiladas Suizas
I love this recipe. I shred the chicken after cooking. I've also made this with leftover turkey, and it tastes great.

Caprese Bison Sirloin Steak with Bow Tie Pasta
Wow! This was really good! I followed Sarah Stone's recommendation of marinating the steaks, and I also grilled the steaks instead of pan frying. I used the Simple Garlic and Basil Pesto recipe from this site. I carefully grilled the steaks to 145 degrees (some may have been closer to 150), and they were fantastic. I'd never had bison before, and have decided that I would eat it all the time if it weren't so expensive. Very tender. The pasta was OK (I added more pesto that recipe called for, and also found it needed salt). I might tweak the pasta next time by adding a little more olive oil, pepper, salt, oregano, and a dash of red pepper. Otherwise, outstanding recipe!

Marilyn's Green Beans Italiano
I made this recipe primarily as written, except I used Italian seasoned panko crumbs and added some chopped oregano into the breading. I didn't mind that the crumbs did not adhere to the beans, but I think overall there could have been less bread crumbs.
