Lemon Lover's Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2011
Good, but the texture is not that of a traditional pound cake, because of the sour cream, I believe. I used just 2 1/4 cup sugar, as we do not like things too sweet. Was moist & had good flavor. I used 7 tablespoons of Meyer lemon juice, rather than extract. Also, I baked it in a bundt pan. Remember to beat WELL after each egg addition, so it's nice and fluffy.

Kielbasa and Cabbage

Reviewed: May 13, 2011
I love cabbage! Both my husband and I grew up with Polish food, as my dad is Polish, and so was his mom. I added potatoes, because that's what I'm used to. Used 1 tablespoon brown sugar. Two is too sweet, unless you want to do a sweet and sour. The caraway and red pepper flakes make this wonderful. Thanks! : )

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: May 9, 2011
Excellent flavor and texture! I used 3 tablespoons of melted BUTTER, 1 pkg regular yeast, and ran through the dough cycle before shaping and doing the final rise. I made 10 rolls. Of similar recipes for buns I have tried on this site, I like this recipe best.

Hamburger Soup

Reviewed: May 3, 2011
Good flavor. I did not thicken it, so didn't use the butter or flour. I did add some corn and basil. Simple and quick. Thanks. My family loves it. Lots more flavor on the second day.

Easy Grilled Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: May 2, 2011
Pretty good chicken. I used about 1/4 cup soy sauce, a shake of garlic powder, a tablespoon of sesame oil, and grilled thighs and drumsticks. The fresh lemon (I have Meyers) was a nice change and good mix with the soy sauce. Thanks!

Love the tang, but a bit sweet for my taste. A good basic recipe -- thanks!

Fresh Strawberry Pie III

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2011
I used a purchased graham cracker crust that I had on hand, as I didn't have the time to make and bake a real pie crust but needed to use up fresh strawberries. Big mistake! Next time I'll make a homemade pie crust and this will be excellent. I cut the sugar back to 3/4 cup, and I cut the strawberries in halves or quarters. Served with whipped cream on top. Because of the type of crust, it broke apart while serving, but it tasted good. My bad on the crust! Thanks for the recipe!

Famous Chicken Francaise

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2011
I added WAY more paprika and garlic, a teaspoon each, and still find this bland, and a touch too lemony. I served over pasta cooked in chicken broth. Sure looks nice!

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
Light and fluffy, great texture, but no flavor. I used butter flavored Crisco, which I thought would be better, but I'll be the one eating the left overs, as no one was too impressed. The biscuits sure LOOK great! Not sure why there's sugar in them. Think I'll try a few other recipes on the site.

Shrimp Fettucine

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
We liked this a lot. Used an extra clove of garlic, a bit extra Meyer lemon juice, and about 1/2 cup home made chicken stock. I mixed the cooked pasta in with shrimp mixture, which allowed the extra stock to be absorbed into the pasta. Topped with Parmesan cheese. I'll surely make this one again.

Baked Paprika-Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
I used a whole cut-up chicken and deboned the breast. Since I really like paprika, I added an extra teaspoon. Had good flavor. I cooked it about an hour and used 2 tablespoons butter to drizzle over top. I can't imagine cooking boneless breasts an hour and 15 minutes.

Extra-Yummy Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2011
I'll have to make these again, to get a truer idea of this pancake, overall. Because so many noted the cinnamon was too strong, I only used 1/2 tablespoon, then tasted the batter. Since it did not taste overpowering, I added the other 1/2 tablespoon, so more stirring. These did not "fluff" as I would like, and the batter was thin. To add more flour would require still MORE stirring, so I'd like to try it next time using the full tablespoon cinnamon and adding an extra tablespoon or so flour.

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Very light, creamy, and fluffy. Easy to spread. I DID use unsalted butter. Makes just enough to liberally ice the top of a 9 x 13 cake! Thanks!

Jim's Cheddar Onion Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2011
To the posters who question no soda in this recipe -- baking powder has soda IN it. Check the label. Will be making this tomorrow. : ) ********************************* Mar 18th : Great flavor! I also used green onions but halved the recipe to make just one loaf. Baked 25 minutes, as my oven always takes less time. I think I'll try AP flour next time, as the reviews support the exchange. Thank you for an excellent recipe!

Basic White Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
Very good basic recipe. I doubled it and added ground beef, saluted fresh mushrooms, garlic, onion, and parsley. Served over skin-on mashed red potatoes. You can thicken or thin sauce based on your preference.

Traditional White Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
I halved the recipe, to mix and do first rise in the bread machine, and made 8 sandwich rolls. Very good. Baked 15 minutes at 375. I did use butter flavored shortening, rather than lard.

Buttermilk Pancakes I

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
These are really good, though I did not use a blender, but the add wet to dry method. I did substitute 1/4 cup wheat flour and used Meyer lemon juice to sour the milk (no buttermilk in the house right now). I like that these pancakes are so light and fluffy. Served with peanut butter, bananas, and maple syrup. SO good!

Mashed Potato Cakes

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
Pretty good, and a nice change for something to use up mashed potatoes. These left overs were the savory w/skin on. I added some cheese and garlic powder. Next time I'll probably fry them, however, and see if I like that better. Thanks. : )
