Pie Iron Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2012
These were fine. They tasted good, but there wasn't anything special about them vs just grilling the shells on the grill like usual. I thought the kids would think it was more fun than it way.

This was ok. Needed more garlic and would have been better over pasta.

Caribbean Fish With Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2011
This was good. I had a difficult time getting the breading to stick and I am not sure it really added much to the recipe. Next time I think I will just omit it and make it a more "week night friendly" dinner. I did use jarred mango salsa that I added more mango and black beans to.

Amazing Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
Easy! I did like the others and added garlic and seasonings to the mayo. I also crushed stuffing mix and used that instead of bread crumbs just because that's what I had on hand. Tasty!

Rich Turkey Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
This gravy saved our Thanksgiving! We forgot the gravy and made some last minute. We didn't follow this recipe exactly, but it was a great guide. We used veggie stock instead of water and bouillon, the dripping, and a can of cream of chicken soup. It was perfect!

Tasty Collard Greens

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
We substituted swiss chard for collards and cooked it on a slightly lower temp for less time. I also used a ham hock instead of the stock and turkey leg. But it was a terrific starer recipe and I was very happy with the results.

Concord Grape Pie I

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2010
This turned out to be a tremendous amount of work for what amounted to jelly/juice pie. Despite adding copious amounts of corn starch AND pectin it still was almost pure liquid. I had no idea how everyone else managed to de-seed their grapes. I had to sit there and squeeze each seed out of each grape. It was awful. I won't bother to make it again.

Classic Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2010
I am giving this four stars even though I changed the recipe a good bit. It was a nice base and I appreciated that- my four stars are for it's basic-ness and flexibility. I used a shredded "mexican mix" of cheese along with some mozzarella instead of cheddar. After cooking the pasta (I had whole wheat penne) I put all of the ingredients into a sauce pan and melted them. I added the in pasta, stirred, and then transfered it to the casserole dish. I topped the dish with a mixture of butter, panko bread crumbs, cheez-its, and crackers before baking at 350 for 15min It was a little dry, but I didn't have any milk sitting at the bottom like other reviewers. I took others advice and added dried mustard, garlic, and onion to the recipe as well. We all liked it.

Slow Cooker Blackberry Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2010
I made this tonight and everyone loved it. I have to admit I didn't use exact measurements, I just sort of used the recipe as a guide. Once way or the other the pork itself produced so much juice that I was sorry I made the sauce. Next time, in stead of adding the berries to more wine, I think I will just boil them in the pork's juice. In the meanwhile, I am going to freeze several pork chops in the juice and sauce I have left over. It was a big hit- a great "different" way to use up all of those summer blackberries.

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
This tasted delicious, but even though we took other reviewer's advise and added 5tsp of corn starch it was still very runny. Almost like berries and berry juice in a pie crust.

Chicken and Bowtie Pasta with Asiago Cream Sauce

This was fantastic. I ate two plates of it and I pretty much hate all food. So that says a lot. :) We more or less made it as described but added zucchini.

Mexican Corn

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
This was fantastic. It wouldn't be an allrecipes review if I didn't mention my changes. But really all I did was use green peppers and add the standard taco spices- cumin, chili powder, garlic, onion, etc. It will be present on our table often.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
A favorite! We took some other suggestions and added the whole can of pumpkin, an extra dash of pumpkin pie spice, vanilla, and subbed out the white flour for whole wheat white and old fashioned oats. I mixed the dry ingredients the night before and we made enough to freeze the leftovers. They were extra tasty with the honey butter found on this site too!

Waikiki Meatballs

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
My mother in law forwarded this recipe. Apparently she used to make it for my husband when he was little. It had the added benefit of requiring everything we already had that needed used up. So *I* give it 5 stars for that alone. :) DH said it was tasty and I should "add it to the rotation!" Even our 3 year old and 10 month old ate two portions.
