World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: May 8, 2014
Wow! New favorite lasagna!! I loved the simmer time--really made for a great flavor! I used all lean ground turkey for meat as our favorite healthy choice. I also used all mozzarella because my silly children don't like Parmesan. I didn't have tomato paste so threw in an extra tomato sauce and it was fine. I also cut the sugar to 1 TBS and it was plenty sweet. I cut the salt down and to about a tsp as well and will probably cut it down more next time--I was thirsty all night! It was fab, though, and I will definitely make it again!! Oh, and I didn't have fennel so I am anxious to try it with that next time!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: May 8, 2014
My only regret is that I didn't double the recipe...Just finished licking the crock pot! Even the anti-beef children ate it. I didn't have beef broth so used chicken and you couldn't even tell! I also only had a pound of beef so I used more carrots and potatoes and this was good for our veggie-lovin' family. I may cut down on the pepper or paprika next time as it was a little "hot," but even with that it was a definite keeper!! Thank you! Oh, and when I started I was tempted to add more broth, but I am glad that I didn't because when it cooked down it was just perfect!

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2014
The only ingredient I changed was to add 3 to 3 1/2 cups flour instead of the full 5 because that is what my dough would accept. The pretzels turned out too soft and sweet. I prefer the crispiness and flavor of the mall pretzels from this website, though they did taste better after they cooled and my family enjoyed them.

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2014
I tried it with 2 tsp of cumin, a can of tomatoes with chiles, 1 1/2 cups frozen corn, a can of beans, and chicken broth. It was great to me, but too spicy for the hubby (I think it was the chiles...). Next time I may cut back to the 1 tsp of cumin and try the chile powder and maybe some lime or cilantro. Great template recipe!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2014
Yummy! They were great, but almost too rich for us. We enjoyed them, but actually like "Brooke's Bombshell Brownies" a little better for the richness factor. I followed others' advise to mix by hand so it didn't get over-mixed. The batter ended up bubbly, but they still turned out fine and fudgy! I skipped the frosting and just used a sprinkle of powder sugar on the tops.

Slow Cooked Ham and Potato Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2014
I skipped the dill and celery spices due to picky kids and the flavor was still good. The family complained that the soup was watery, which they did not like. I think if I made this again I would add less water and maybe more flour to thicken it up.

Easy Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2014
Used green chile enchilada sauce instead of taco sauce and 2 cans of Kirkland chicken, put half of the cheese (cheddar because that was what I had) in the enchiladas and half on top, and the hubby and I loved them. Unfortunately the kids did not, but hope their tastes "grown into them!" Thanks for a yum and simple dinner!

Slow Cooker Vegetarian Minestrone

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2014
I used slightly different veggie mixed based on what we like and what was in the fridge, but used the same basic recipe and it turned out nicely. My hubby loved getting his veggies in such a yummy way and though my young kids are not fans of Minestrone, I really enjoyed it as well.

Easy Banana Muffins

Just made them exactly as written, licked the bowl clean like my 8-year-old does, and gobbled up a muffin hot out of the oven! Yum!! So moist, healthy and delicious! Thanks for a lovely recipe!!

Easy Toffee

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2013
My first attempt at toffee--a super success!! I loved how this recipe had such detailed instructions (on temperature to cook the butter and brown sugar, oven time, etc.) and was a no-fail! The only change I made was to sprinkle crushed candy cane on top instead of nuts and it was a Christmas party hit! Thank you!!

Ground Turkey Noodle Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2013
My lasagna-hating kids loved this easy meal! I sprinkled an extra teaspoon of Italian seasoning over the top before baking, but otherwise stayed true to the delicious recipe as is. Thank you!

Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2013
I would give this 4.5 stars if I could. The texture was nice and they turned out pretty good, but I was a little disappointed in the flavor. Just expected them to be a little better. I added less than the called-for chocolate chips, and it was still too much...The kids thought they were pretty good, and the hubby liked them, but they were not our absolute favorite cookie. Nice for variety every now and then, though. Thanks!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2013
Made this with nonfat sour cream and everything else pretty much as written (though I did not dust the pans with cinnamon and sugar) and made muffins. I baked them at 325 until they were light brown and passed the toothpick test. They were delicious and moist and so much better than just regular banana bread! Great texture, great flavor, a definite keeper! They made about 36 regular-sized muffins--great for freezing and eating for snacks!

White Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2013
I baked these cookies about 11-12 minutes on 350 and they were still a little doughy in the center and quite puffy. I tried flattening them and that helped some. The flavor was good, but not our favorite oatmeal cookie. I did milk chocolate chips and found 2 cups was far too much to add--about 1/3 of them just crumbled out when I formed the cookie balls because there were so many.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Wow--this is a definite new favorite! I can never make my mom's chocolate cookie recipe turn out, but these were perfect and I didn't change a thing! Thanks for a wonderful (and addictive!) after-school-snack!

Cracked Sugar Cookies II

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
Made this today for a neighbor who cannot have milk products and they were great. Easy to make and delicious flavor. I added just less than the sugar called for in the cookies and frosted them instead of doing the sugar sprinkled on top. Thanks for a good recipe!

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2013
Texture was great, but the flavor was not. Even with a scant 1/2 tsp nutmeg, it was still too much. Maybe I would do cinnamon instead of nutmeg next time. I filled the muffin tins about 1/3 full and they rose nicely, but I just got 9 large muffins.

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

MY family loved this!! I subbed lean ham for bacon and did not use the sour cream or green onions based on my kids' preferences, but everything else was a big hit! Thanks!!

Cracked Sugar Cookies I

SOOO much easier than rolling out and cutting, and they turned out moist and delish! I got about 3 1/2 dozen cookies. My kids loved them even without frosting!! Thanks for a real keeper!!

Chunky Monkey Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2012
These got mixed reviews at our house. One of the kids loved them, the hubby thought they were okay, and the other kids just sort of liked them. The consistency turned out weird for me and the flavor was not outstanding, but the chocolate made them yummy for those who liked them!
