Sugar Cookies with Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2014
Maybe Allrecipes screwed something up when I had it cut the recipe in half for me, but these didn't turn out right at all! There was WAY too much flour. I had to add a lot more butter when mixing the dough so it wasn't just dough-colored dust, and even with icing (I just did powdered sugar and milk- I didn't try the buttercream here), they just taste like flour. Maybe the proportions are right if you make the full batch or do the math yourself, but I've never run into problems using that feature before.

Strawberry Cake II

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
Made cupcakes for a potluck, and they were a huge success! They're light, fluffy, and perfectly moist. The jello does mean they have a distinctly artificial taste to them, so if you want real strawberry taste, this is not the recipe for you. I don't mind it, but it was much stronger than I'd hoped. I also did not make the frosting, and instead opted for a honey vanilla bean frosting found elsewhere.

Mexican Cornbread II

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2014
I've been asked to bring this to every family gathering since I first tried it! I usually omit the peppers though, as many people in my family don't like them. I've also used a variety of cheese, and have yet to find a bad one. If I remember, I usually mix some honey in too, but it's still great when I forget!

Oat Applesauce Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2013
This is a good starting point, but without some alterations, it was a little too bland for my taste. Also, it really needed some oil to keep the muffins from sticking to the wrappers. I used chunky applesauce, and threw in some raisons and cinnamon. After the first batch, when I realized how badly they stuck to the wrapper, I added a little olive oil to remaining batter, and those turned out great!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies VI

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2013
As another user noted- there is no salt in this recipe, so if you use unsalted butter, you really need to add some! I forgot it when I made my first batch and they were so bland. The next time I added a teaspoon of salt, used baking powder instead of soda, almost doubled the cinnamon, threw in a little nutmeg, and was generous with the honey. I don't know if I've ever gotten so many compliments on something I've made! They're amazing!

Whipped Cream Cake II

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2012
Wow, this recipe is amazing! I used all purpose flour, subtracting 2 tbsp per cup, and a little extra baing powder, as other reviewers suggested. The result was moist, fluffy, delicious cake that I couldn't put down! It almost seems a shame to frost it!

Popovers

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
I just made these for Thanksgiving, and they were a big hit! I did a "trial run" a few days before and found that it helped to put about half the amount of chilled butter in each cup. I also added about a tablespoon of honey to the melted butter for a little bit of sweetness.

Creamy Fruit Fluff

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
I substituted strawberry jello for lemon, raspberry jelly for apricot and added mandarin oranges. I also doubled the recipe, but found 1 jar of jelly was still plenty. It was delicious and a big hit at my Church potluck!
