Surprising Elimination on Top Chef

And then there were five....I must say I was surprised at the elimination of Dale last night on Top Chef.  He is an incredibly talented chef and really showed some great talent and awesome recipes this time around.  He seemed a calmer and gentler Dale than in his original series.  Is it me or is teaming with Angelo the kiss of death?  Tiffany, you can like those big white prawns but were they worth the aggravation of working with Marcel?  I think not.  Carla gave me a big scare.  Carla- cook with your heart, not with your pride.  If the judges hate a dish give it up, don't try to recreate it for your ego.  Mike Isabella-you are a thug and belong on a different kind of reality show, Jersey Shore perhaps?  I feel strongly about this as I used to work with a chef that took credit for all of my cooking out on the floor of the restaurant, NOT COOL!  Nice job Richard and Antonia, once again you guys rock.  But Antonia, pay attention!  I was really sad that you lost that quickfire (and another 5 grand) because you didn't listen.  Come on girl, my money is on you!  All in all I had another fun evening with Top Chef.  My husband laughs at me because I guess I react to that show like I'm watching the superbowl.  He threatens to tape me while I watch!  Have a great day!

I was just thinking this morning that Carla and Tiffany have been in the bottom 3 for the last 2 weeks in a row, and it's Angelo and Dale who have gone home - 2 guys I thought would make it to the final 3 for sure. Anyway, my money is now on Antonia too.

Antonia has only been in the bottom when she has been part of a team with weaker chefs. I liked her in her first go-round when Stephanie Izzard won (who I was also rooting for). I think that she has grown since then and is an amazing chef. I like her attitude and her funny oneliners as well. Still love Carla too, but she is her own worst enemy.

I agree - it was a surprise for Dale to get eliminated - and I agree that he has grown from his first Top Chef season. If I'm remembering right - wasn't over salting the kiss of death for him? Being a chef also, I know over-salting is a somewhat fixable situation - you can add lemon juice or sugar, depending on the final outcome you're shooting for. Of course on Top Chef, it only takes one small mistake to "pack your knives and go". I also agree with you that there's not a prawn big enough for me to pair up with Marcel - too much ego. All chefs have a degree of ego - we are who we are because we dare to do publicly what others will only do in the privacy of their home kitchen. It's like I told a friend "We dare to succeed or we dare to fail - but we dare." I also agree with you regarding Mike - even though there's probably not a new recipe that exists, there are new twists on old recipes or a new way of putting ingredients together that makes "meatloaf" take a new turn - but come on Mike - looking at Richard's notes and winning 25 grand off of another chef's work - wrong! Who I would like to see in the final 3 would be Carla - Antonia - and Richard. Carla and Antonia cook with their heart - Richard cooks from his head- but what a genius! And my husband also laughs at me while I'm watching Top Chef - he says it's not life & death - I told him he's not a chef.

About Me
I am a retired chef and restaurant owner. I love food and all things related to it. I am also an avid Texas Holdem poker player. I am married with an awesome husband and two grown happily married children and one grandson. I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas in a very small town. We live on 10 acres and have three different gardens with varying levels of success that my beautiful daughter-in-law is in charge of with my help. I believe in cooking from scratch and am glad that I now have the time to do it.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make soups, baked goods, and delicious entrees. I make all of our breads and pastries from scratch. Eggs are my friend and I used to be a breakfast cook for years. Many chefs hate cooking eggs and that was true of the chefs I hired so I became the breakfast chef at my busy little restaurant.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We like to make tamales a couple of times a year for Cinco de Mayo and Christmas Eve even though we are gringos. We don't let that fact stop us! Of course we need black-eyed peas for good luck at New Years. Thanksgiving without our jalapeno cornbread stuffing would be family sacrilege.
My cooking triumphs
One of my favorite meals I have cooked was Thanksgiving dinner for 80 seniors. I wanted to bring them holiday memories through the tastes and smells of my holiday menu. When I saw some of them getting teary about the meal I knew I had succeeded.
My cooking tragedies
Any tragedies I have had have gone straight into the trash and out of my mind. No sense dwelling on negatives.
