Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2014
This came out really good but I tell you we didn't add the red chile nor cayenne pepper in our house made cajun seasoning and it was plenty spicy from the Rotel tomato and chili and I used the mild one. We are not faint spice eaters either but any hotter wouldn't have made this enjoyable. I added okra as well as others had recommended. Will be making again definitely.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2013
We love these and love that they can be varied by the goodies you add in. We have made these every week for the past 3-4 weeks. They don't only taste great but keep you full for hours. We only bake for 18-20 min. Our variety includes alternating or combining the following dates or craisins, almonds or sunflower or pecans or walnuts, choc chips, sesame seeds, coconut flakes. Seriously sky is the limit. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

Chef John's Minestrone Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2013
We truly enjoyed this. Used fresh tomatoes that were soft so I had to use up. Only used a pinch of red pepper and that was perfect amount of spiciness. Since we were allowed to use whatever we wanted I had cabbage coleslaw I had to get rid of and romaine lettuce leaves. Did not add any beans. Only used chicken broth no water. It was perfect.

Surprisingly good. Didn't taste beans at all. I only had to bake about 25 min and it was plenty.

Pumpkin Crumb Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
Really good, but I did cut sugar in filling and topping in half. I'm so glad I did because it was plenty sweet. Anymore sugar and it would have been too sweet. Also, baked in 10x10 size pan which was perfect. With those minor changes it was perfect. Young and old loved it.

Not sure why this came out too salty for me. It set up right but was definitely surprised when I tasted it and it was salty. Not sure if I'd make this again.

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2012
Used this marinade on T bone steaks. Marinated for 24 hrs in a ziplock bag. Used cider vinegar instead of red vinegar, only 1/4 cup of canola oil and no lemon juice. Before broiling in oven I sprinkled both sides with kosher salt. Broiled 4 min on each side, perfect for medium. A definite keeper. Thanks Guycon for sharing.

Dessert Crepes

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2012
Really easy to make and come out beautiful. The first time I made them I followed directions exactly. Made them second time around and added vanilla and used only 3 whole eggs and 1 egg yolk as I thought the first time "may" have had an eggy taste. Still came out beautiful, tasty and in my opinion less eggy. Thanks for the recipe.

Red Curry Flank Steak

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2012
Good unique flavor. Marinaded for two days and then due to rain broiled in oven. 4 min on one side and 3 on the other. Included basil in my marinade and then added more to top of meat after patting meat dry prior to cooking. My cook time resulted in nice pink center. Next time might do 3 min on both sides.

Vegan Red Lentil Soup

Was really good but did up the curry powder for our liking. Came together so easy and happened to have everything on hand. Added about a handful of fresh spinach chopped and about 3 mushrooms. Would definitely make again.

No Bake Cookies III

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2012
To try recipe out I halved which worked out fine. My only complaint is they are too sweet. I even lessened the amount of sugar called for and still sweet. I probably used 3/4 cup instead of the 1 cup but still too sweet. Otherwise all other proportions were right on.

Basil Shrimp

Reviewed: May 29, 2012
I would make again. First time I cut recipe in half to try it out. I also reduced the mustard to half again per other reviewers. Glad I did. I think that amount gave a good balance of lemon, mustard tang, and basil. I did use 3 garlics because we like our garlic. If you are a seafood eater this is nice to have in rotation.

Strawberry Spinach Salad I

Use half the amount of sugar and add a tsp of Mustard. Wonderful. If you don't have sugar you can use honey. I did and it was awesome. I also substitute balsamic for the vinegar sometimes and that is awesome too.

Restaurant Style Egg Drop Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2012
Good directions and base but needs lots of seasoning. Used low sodium chicken broth, dropped a coin of fresh ginger in broth along with two garlic cloves, but that wasn't enough. Had to add almost a whole tsp of ground ginger, some garlic powder and onion powder, along wit soy sauce. I did take the recommendation to add conrstarch prior to eggs and that seemed to work good. Will make again, but know I have to put lots of extra seasoning.

Spicy Beef Curry Stew for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2012
Ended up needing a lot more seasoning. I added 2 TBS curry at beginning and ended up adding another at the end. Also add about 2tsp cumin, 1 tsp ground ginder along with the fresh ginger at the beginning. I think what really made it was adding 2 tsp cider vinegar and about 1 tsp sugar. Also, slow cooking for 4 to no more than 5 hrs is way plenty. I made the asian coconut rice from here to go along side it. In the end with all the additional seasoning it came out Ok, and a nice change. May make again if I get into a rut of something different to cook. Just not on my go to.
