Balsamic Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2015
I used this on some thick bone-in pork chops, they were so YUMMY! I will definitely be using this marinade for the rest of my cooking life! I did exactly as written last night for only 2 hrs. and they were so good that my taste buds are cranking up just thinking about it. I served with rosemary roasted red potatoes and loved the reduced sauce with everything, so I can understand other reviewers cooking some onions, carrots, etc. in with it. I do use high quality balsamic vinegar. Easy and "company" worthy. Thanks so much for this simple recipe!

Best Ever Crab Cakes

Reviewed: May 18, 2014
I've made plenty of crab cakes, but these were super good! I think the tarragon puts them over the top. Only addition I made was a little spicy brown mustard in the mix. I usually put a few capers in mine but didn't have any and still loved them. Hubby said best ones he's ever had. Thanks so much for an easy excellent recipe!

Asian Glazed Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2014
We loved this! I may have put a to bit more Asian chili sauce than some may want, but it was tasty Deluxe! One of those dishes that I wished I could eat more of, just for the flavor. We will do complete recipe next time since I halved it because there's just two of us. I'm sure the leftovers will be equally good. This will. E a new favorite for sure. Thanks for the recipe, Essanaye!

Chef John's Sausage & Shrimp Jambalaya

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2014
We loved it! No changes except used white rice---we were snowed in and that's what we had in pantry. Fantastic! Can't wait to make again with brown rice! Chef John rules again!

Super-Delicious Zuppa Toscana

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2014
This soup was SO good, we loved it! I used hot Italian sausage because I had it on hand, so I omitted the red pepper flakes. This made it very spicy (and we like spicy) so I used a few more potatoes and half&half. We love garlic, I always at least double the amount of that, and I also used just a bit of fennel. This soup was amazing, a new favorite. Thanks so much for this recipe, souporsweets!

Slow Cooker Boneless Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2013
I am not a slow cooker aficionado but my oven is not right, so....Tried this today for easy Christmas dinner, my family loved it! They said don't change a thing, but I will cut back cook time since it was a smaller breast next time. Only mods were to add some poultry seasoning, some herbs de Florence instead of just basil and no seasoned salt because I had none, and used chicken stock instead of water. I also added logs of celery, baby carrots and one onion, chunk cut. Awesome! Family said they could eat this every Christmas and they cleaned their plates. 4. Lb bone in breast yielded 6 servings with a lot of leftovers. Thanks for a great addition to my recipe box!

Overnight Blueberry French Toast casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2013
This was a hit at our house! After watching the video and reading reviews, it seemed it would be a good change from our usual Christmas egg casserole. We already had some wonderful blackberries, so i used them, with good results. i will do next time with blueberries which are hubby's favorite. Also, i added some cinnamon and fresh grated nutmeg. For our family, I only used one brick of cream cheese with the dozen eggs, and 1/2 c sugar in the sauce, knowing I could always add some. The sauce ended up still so sweet that I added about 2 1/2 Tbsp of fresh lemon juice for brightness. That seemed just right and the sauce had gotten a bit thick anyhow. Next time I may only use 1 Tbsp of corn starch. Our family of six ate about half the casserole, but we look forward to leftovers. The sauce was served on the side to allow for personal taste. I can see making extra sauce to use on ice cream, etc.--it was yummy! Thanks so much for sharing--loved it and may have to always have it even if an egg casserole is also on menu. This time, though, I served with sausage links and patties and fresh fruit. Again, thanks!

Garlic-Ginger Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
I may have reviewed this the first time I tried it, but now I have to say these are our favorite wings ever! Daughter came home to visit and she gave big thumbs up also. Chef John, you're the bomb! And the sauce for this would be great on anything-- thinking of trying it on shrimp soon. I don't even want to dispose of extra sauce, I save it for other uses. I follow the recipe exactly except a bit more garlic and more Siracha for heat, just a personal tweek. I make double the sauce to make it easier to coat chicken and I have found the step to coat with sauce and place on tray a few minutes helps sauce to penetrate but keep the crunchy crust. Super yum! This will be my Super Bowl contribution this year. Thanks, Chef John! We love all your dishes.

Nikki's Steak Saltimbocca

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2013
This was fabulous!!! I cook ALOT and both I and hubby thought this was phenomenal! More than a keeper, this is very special fare...the reason we cook instead of eat out! You have to try this...I keep smelling the sage, etc on my hands, don't want to wash them :)! Honestly, do not skimp on fresh sage (we had some in garden, but would pay if necessary) or the cheese (we used fontina from deli section b/c I got confused w/ other recipe, but WOW!), we will always do this way...we were amazed at results and look forward to serving to friends...thank you so much, Nikki! Forever in your debt! Can't praise enough!

Pineapple Chicken Tenders

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2013
I must say I was disappointed in this---I really thought it would be amazingly flavorful, I even marinated for over 3 hrs. It smelled great but just didn't impart much flavor to the meat. Because our family likes white and dark meat, I marinated tenderloins and thighs ( hard to have bad thighs....). Neither had the amount of flavor I was expecting, just OK. I appreciate the recipe being submitted, wish I had better results.

Perfect Breakfast

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2013
Thanks for the recipe, Britty! It was yummy just the way you wrote it, but I like my egg yolks runny to be sopped up with the bread. :). Andrea, these 5 stars are especially to counteract your strange review of anything you haven't tried, and S & P are a "given" for me. Any recipe on here is free to be tweaked as you wish, that's the beauty of the art of cooking, but it offends my sense of fairness to give anything the lowest rating if you didn't even try it. Reviews help me decide if I want to tweak it and how.

Easy Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
I couldn't decide whether to give this 4 stars or 5 because it is not a very gourmet recipe, but, hey, it 's chicken enchiladas for goodness sake! But I had to give it five since it has become my go-to-in-hurry yummy dinner that my whole family likes, even the picky ones. I have made easy ones and more complicated ones and we prefer these. If I'm really throwing them together, I do as written with the addition of enchilada sauce on bottom of pan than across the middle of the top, then the cheese. I LOVE how easy this is! If I have more time, I add fresh cilantro and maybe some green chilis. I have also tried it with corn tortillas, usually flour though because we like just as we'll and I usually have those on hand. In fact, today I had everything on hand except had to use thawed chicken breasts, we prefer the flavor of rotisserie though. Thanks for the recipe! Keeper here.

Beer Butt Rosemary Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2011
Awesome roasted chicken! Very easy way to make a new family favorite! I had to go to work at 6pm and when I got home, it was GONE! My husband and two daughters didn't leave me a scrap. Good thing I tasted it before leaving. It was yummy, and I really had my hopes up for having a snack, guess I'll have to do it again soon. I am definitely getting one of those racks, that is the only way to make this any easier. Anything that my family devours like that has to get a 5. Next time, though, I'll roast the potatoes separately, we like them a bit less soggy. I threw in some baby carrots also and they were tasty cooked in the stock and onions.(I always use stock, not broth, for the deeper flavor.) thanks so much for this one, it will be a regular with us!

Angel Shrimp Pasta

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
I usually only give 5 for really gourmet recipes, but I loved this and so did hubby, which is a bit unusual. I made as written but used bowtie pasta, really yum! There was leftovers but they were gone by time I got home today! (Made last night, hubby worked at home today :) and got to it for lunch!) Dang! I should have sneaked it out with me for lunch! Loved it, will make again SOON! Will try giving it to daughter home from college... Thanks so much for recipe!

Chicken and Broccoli Braid

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2011
I really tried...it was so beautiful, BUT...I've made it twice. The first time, even though I checked it ten minutes early, it was burnt. The second time, I set timer EXTRA early. Looked beautiful, but lacked flavor. My kids are a bit picky, but even I and hubby were having trouble finishing our portion. Most ended in the can, sad but true. Thanks for recipe, but I could not make this work without TOTALLY rewriting it...

Authentic Thousand Island Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
This recipe ROCKS?I've made it twice now and didn't tell my family/guests what it was until they tasted it, all loved it and were surprised since normally they might not like commercial Thousand Island dressing...This will always be in our fridge, thanks so much!
