I visited Texas and flew to have a dental vacation.  I went to a local mexican restaurant and wanted to order a Chalupa.  A chalupa is like a taco only double in size.  I was told by the waitress" JUST ORDER TWO TACOS!!  They did not have any!! I always thought texas was the most mexican state when it came to food.  Will try to upload two photos of my Chalupa served here in Washington state.  It was delicious!!!

Skmccormick-I know what you mean about Chalupas. Wherever you go Mexican food is different. I went to Phoenix and ordered some Mexican food and it was so different from what I eat here in Southern Colorado. We have green chili made with locally grown Pueblo Chiles that is so wonderful and different from other states.

This is funny. I have lived in Texas my whole life. Can honestly say I've never seen a chalupa on the menu of any restaurant. My paternal grandparents were both of mexican decent. We ate chalupas in my family but they were not big tacos. It was more like a tostada. It was a fried corn tortilla with refried beans, cheese, lettuce, and tomato.
