Four Spice Crackles

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2001
This is really a good recipe if you like a lot of spices! I added slightly more than the recipe called for, and they turned out quite good (note: do go easy on the ginger if you are adding more than called for). although I didn't try it, I think they would be very good broken up and eaten with vanilla ice cream!

Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2001
I rolled the dough into balls and pressed slightly flat with a sugar dipped glass, this worked well. I really liked the mixture of almond and cream cheese, this is one I will definitely make again!

Eggnog I

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2001
this tasted good, but not very "eggy", it tasted like sweetend milk with whipped cream and rum. next time i might try adding more eggs.

Apple Cranberry Crisp

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2001
this tasted really very good, not too sweet and not too tart. it might bee a good idea to (very) coursely chop the cranberries first, a whole cranberry can be very tart if you bite into too many in one mouthfull, but definitely a keeper!

Christmas Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2002
This was pretty good (especially if you like the flavor of pork sausage), it goes very well with Christmas breakfast. be sure to bake it long enough, or it will be kind of runny. I think adding a bit of sage would be a good idea, and maybe more cheese. This year I'm going to use Italian sausage. All in all, a good recipe.

Apple-Raisin French Toast Casserole

Reviewed: May 24, 2002
this turned out much too sweet for my taste - too much syrup. the bread part was kind of bland compared to the apple/syrup mixture. i dont think i will make this again, unless i use only 1/3 to half of the sugar and add more spices to the bread mixture. if you like very sweet and a lot of syrup this would be a good recipe.

Spinach and Mushroom Salad

Reviewed: May 24, 2002
this was really good! i have made it several times since trying it for the first time. i add more bacon than called for and do not always break the stems off of the spinach, but that doesnt matter. my husband likes it too (has even requested it) and he doesnt like raw spinach!

Roast Leg of Lamb with Rosemary

Reviewed: May 24, 2002
this was really good! the meat turned out nice and juicy and the flavor of the marinade complmented the lamb very well. i used dried rosemary and it turned out fine. i will make this again, perhaps for a holiday lunch. an added bonus: when grilling the outside of the meat becomes nice and crunchy!

Cherry Angel Food Cake

Reviewed: May 27, 2002
this cake turned out great! i didn't have cream of tartar and used self-rising flour but this was not a problem. i will add more cherries next time (maybe fresh ones) and fold them in rather than just laying them on the batter. i think i will only add 1 C. sugar next time too, but all in all 5 stars!

Absolutely the Best Nacho Dip Ever

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2002
Very good, maybe not the best ever, but definitely worth making again! I added some onion and garlic powder to the cream cheese mixture for a little more taste. Also, use finely shredded lettuce (works better with the chips).

Mexican Cream Cheese Rollups

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2002
Pretty good, very easy to make and they keep well overnight in the fridge (wrapped in clingfoil). I added some onion and garlic powder to the mixture for taste. Very good with hot salsa for dipping!

Pumpkin Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2002
This was a little too sweet for a side dish, so I serve it warm/room temp with a little whipped cream for dessert. It would probably work well baked in individual dishes/ramekins too. I've often made it with butternut squash and sometimes I use pumpkin pie spice instead of the cinnamon. Its a keeper

Nana's Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2005
This was so easy to make, and since I didnt have any brown sugar on hand, even easier! I only used half of the recommended apples (that way you get a lot of topping) and next time will use granny smith apples, or a sweeter apple and maybe add some fresh cranberries. It would probably be really good with pears too. Very good w/vanilla ice cream :-D Update: I've made this so often I cant count how many times! Its my "go to" dessert when I have extra apples or pears (or both). Sometimes I add a few chopped walnuts or pecans to the topping before baking. This is hands down my hubby's favorite dessert.

Crisp Lemon Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2007
very light and "fresh". i used a bit less sugar than called for and lemon juice (didnt have essence on hand). the instructions say to drop and then flatten slightly, i did this but think making balls and then flattening would produce a prettier cookie. they stayed white while baking, so no golden brown edges. i will make this again!!! :-D

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2010
very good and easy to make. i made this twice (once in a practice run and once "for real") for the practice run i used butter flavored crisco and in addition to the vanilla added a bit of almond extract. the second time i used 1 1/2 C butter crisco and 1/2 C unsalted butter and only the vanilla. both batches were very good and held up well to decorating. the batch with real buttter did go a little soft after being at room temp for a few hours. i will use this recipe again. update: made again, used only butter this time. turned out good (but think will be too soft for intricate decorating), but it should be fine for "piping and stars" decorating

Brookville Hotel Cream-Style Corn

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2010
a keeper! the taste was good, not too sweet or salty and it was very easy to make. i used canned corn, about 1C cream and added a splash milk (it didnt seem to have enough liquid). i also followed another reviewers suggestion and used my hand held blender to give it a few blitzes to cream some of the corn too. worked great!

Three Bean Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2011
this was really good! i used frozen green beans (thawed them first), omitted the celery (forgot to buy it), added about 2 tsp more honey and prepared mustard instead of dry (didnt have dry). also didnt let it chill for 2 hours (no time), but it was still really good!! this will become one of our standard BBQ side dishes. NOTE: some people complain of their being no crucnh, I always make this with fresh green beans (still no celery), problem solved :-)
