Red, White and Blue Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2014
I made this last evening ...for 4th of July brunch. I used 2 pound cake mixes & took the advice of CHICK and poked holes in cooled cake and filled with concentrated strawberry jello. The jello added a lot more berry flavor. Yummmm...everyone dug right in and ate every morsel.

This is delicious & was nary a crumb leftover even after doubling recipe. I did not have grenadine so substituted marachino cherry juice.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2014
I agree with some that the sauce needs to be spread over the top...like in the picture. Otherwise the sauce soaks in with the fat and is not pretty. I also use a couple slices of bread in the bottom to absorb the fat. Its still a once every 2 week must have at our home in Southern Oregon. Thanks for sharing!

Sky High Yorkshire Pudding

Perfect as is but a little sea salt makes it even better. I always make yorkie pudding when making any kind of good roast for guests. Always many compliments!

Classic Pickled Eggs

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2013
I make pickled eggs in spiced beet juice. They do not need to sit a week but only 2-3 days is adequate for the eggs to absorb the seasonings & the beautiful pink color on the outside. When sliced in two halves the colors are lovely & make a nice presentation.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2013
I set this in a crock pot to keep warm after making it late this afternoon. We play in a twiloight golf league from 5:30 till dusk once a week. We both absolutely LOVED this comfort food recipe. I'm not a measuring type cook unless baking so I didn't measure the ingredients in quanties suggested. I followed it & added extra Better Than Bouillon to water, added sliced carrots to celery & extra onion. I used a 12 oz. can of evaporated milk to add creaminess. THANK YOU!!!!! Will definitely make it again!

Oatmeal Crispies II

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2013
This recipe is in my Mom's 1944 Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook. It's a family favorite due to its crispiness & flavor. It was my Daddy's favorite cookie ever. I add a little cinnamon, nutmeg & clove to spice them up just a bit. Parchment paper is a must but I know my Mom & Gma never had suck stuff. I think they used brown paper.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2012
I dredged the chicken pieces in cornstarch & cooked over medium high. Added the sauce to allow it to thicken with cornstarch & drippings. I used boneless breasts & boneless thighs. Served to our Samoan pastor for dinner & he raved. I agree it took longer than suggested so I removed the chicken from sauce to prevent drying out. I'm glad I did as breast meat dries out quickly. The thighs were perfect, too. Poured over Calrose Rice...sticky and flavorful. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe!

Grilled Garlic Parmesan Zucchini

Good recipe. Great use of zucchini. My hubby dislikes parmesan so I top some with Panko bread crumbs instead of parmesan. He likes them, too!

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2012
Wonderful...been looking for a KFC type slaw. I did make the cabbage finer by whirring it in a food processor w/a splash of water to move it along. I drained it well & proceeded with the perfect dressing. THANKS, MUAH & GRACIAS!

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2012
Excellent recipe as is except container must be larger. To give it an extra special kick and have folks saying, "What IS that?" I add an envelope of dry Onion Soup mix to the sour cream & cream cheese. I also use fat free sour cream/cream cheese. Never any leftovers. Happy summer everyone!

Zippy Summer Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2012
Delicious!!! However, rating it 4 stars because I & I'm sure many other cooks despise messing with shelling shrimp so I purchased them all ready to cook. Made my life much easier. I love using my homegrown basil!!! I also added a few grape tomatoes from the vine. Thanks for sharing.

Crispy Fried Chicken

Best I've ever made. I don't fry chicken often but when I do, this is the ONE! Crisco does a better job than veg oil, but it's so unhealthy.

Mint Pesto Pasta

Reviewed: May 18, 2012
We enjoyed this recipe very much. A lively & light summer pasta. I used a lighter Bowtie pasta cooked in chicken broth. I was so excited to make it that I used cream cheese rather than going to store for ricotta. I will definitely make this again. Thanks MASTER815K.

Excellent & easy salad. I'm a gastric lapband recipient & cannot eat bread. The crunchy croutons take the place of bread/toast and go down so heavenly. Thanks D.L. Mooney!!!

Tatertot Casserole

Reviewed: May 5, 2012
This popped up this a.m. and remiinded me of how long it's been since I'd fixed this quick & delicious casserole. Versatile...turkey, beef, pork, lamb meats, tomato or cream based soups work, add a layer of grean beans, carrots or corn and you have a complete meal. Vary the spices & it's a new casserole each time you make it. Thanks barryzimm for bringing back one of our faves.
