Tartar Sauce I

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2015
My beloved Uncle Dick Taylor was a head chef at Bess Eiler's in Santa Monica, CA in the 50's. As a new bride he gave me this recipe for tarter sauce. It IS the BEST. Dill pickle relish can also be used or a combo of both sweet & dill depending on your taste preference.

Easy Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2014
Good recipe but needed more rich flavor. I used canned beef consomme to give it more body & flavor. Added more garlic & Italian seasonings. Sprinkled parmesan cheese on top.

Gravy Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2014
I also have been making a very close version (I add minced garlic) of this recipe for 50 years. Its hard to imagine a month going by that this is not on my supper menu. I also have done it with sirloin steak & its equally good. Its great to see some young cooks on this website. Its also nice to see them get excited over an old recipe that is new to them. Thanks for sharing!

Cheesy Potato Soup II

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2014
This wonderful recipe reminds me of one of the most popular soups in Ecuador. It is called Locro. It is made with mushy potatoes, fresh yellow cheese & chicken broth. They serve it with sliced avocado, a circle of red or green baby bell pepper and a sprinkling of popcorn on top. I used Velveeta when I got home & it turned out great. Spread the avocado out like stems. Top the stems with a circle of pepper & place a popcorn in the middle of the pepper. It will look like a flower on your soup. Beautiful presentation for guests! I serve it with Red Lobster Cheese Biscuits.

Six Can Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2014
Okay but extremely bland for our taste. I added a packet of Taco Seasoning & a packet of dry Ranch Buttermilk dressing.. These additions perfected an okay basic recipe.

Cindy's Jambalaya

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2014
It was my night to cook supper during our houseboating vacation on Lake Shasta, CA. I tripled the recipe & tossed in leftover chicken, turkey, ham, sliced Costco polish sausage & a 2# bag of frozen shrimp. I used Old Bay & a few crushed red pepper flakes to keep it a bit milder for the kids. What a rock star I was! 24 servings fed 12 people with nary a bite leftover.

Red, White and Blue Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2014
I made this last evening ...for 4th of July brunch. I used 2 pound cake mixes & took the advice of CHICK and poked holes in cooled cake and filled with concentrated strawberry jello. The jello added a lot more berry flavor. Yummmm...everyone dug right in and ate every morsel.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2014
I agree with some that the sauce needs to be spread over the top...like in the picture. Otherwise the sauce soaks in with the fat and is not pretty. I also use a couple slices of bread in the bottom to absorb the fat. Its still a once every 2 week must have at our home in Southern Oregon. Thanks for sharing!

Classic Pickled Eggs

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2013
I make pickled eggs in spiced beet juice. They do not need to sit a week but only 2-3 days is adequate for the eggs to absorb the seasonings & the beautiful pink color on the outside. When sliced in two halves the colors are lovely & make a nice presentation.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2013
I set this in a crock pot to keep warm after making it late this afternoon. We play in a twiloight golf league from 5:30 till dusk once a week. We both absolutely LOVED this comfort food recipe. I'm not a measuring type cook unless baking so I didn't measure the ingredients in quanties suggested. I followed it & added extra Better Than Bouillon to water, added sliced carrots to celery & extra onion. I used a 12 oz. can of evaporated milk to add creaminess. THANK YOU!!!!! Will definitely make it again!

Oatmeal Crispies II

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2013
This recipe is in my Mom's 1944 Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook. It's a family favorite due to its crispiness & flavor. It was my Daddy's favorite cookie ever. I add a little cinnamon, nutmeg & clove to spice them up just a bit. Parchment paper is a must but I know my Mom & Gma never had suck stuff. I think they used brown paper.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2012
I dredged the chicken pieces in cornstarch & cooked over medium high. Added the sauce to allow it to thicken with cornstarch & drippings. I used boneless breasts & boneless thighs. Served to our Samoan pastor for dinner & he raved. I agree it took longer than suggested so I removed the chicken from sauce to prevent drying out. I'm glad I did as breast meat dries out quickly. The thighs were perfect, too. Poured over Calrose Rice...sticky and flavorful. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe!

Good recipe. Great use of zucchini. My hubby dislikes parmesan so I top some with Panko bread crumbs instead of parmesan. He likes them, too!
