I'm in the third week of my liquid perscription of calcium after my diagnosis of hypocalcemia, doing better, but still got other low ratings. My metabolism has always been troublesome, after a bout with cancer it smoothed out some, and I leveled out in weight. After the parathyroid removals things were ueneven again. Now Ineed protein, calcium, and lots of stuff. Yes, I'm in the right place, and I have a desire to try how to make it worke for me. I checked out a lot muffin recipes, and I'm tailoring them for my needs and flavor. I've already done one orange w/the whole orange in processor, & several added ing, working on another one, can't wait to share. The orange ones passed ones passed my taste teste, I hardely ever passes my own stuuf,(worst Critic, aren't we all?)

In addition to calcium you need foods rich in vitamin D to help your body absorb the calcium. Here is a neat little chart to help you.

Milk, yogurt, cheese, green leafy vegetables. These are the foods you should be eating at every meal and even as snacks. If you are worried about gaining weight choose reduced fat (Not fat free, you need some of the fat.) Treat yourself to ice cream or frozen yogurt, make a nice meal of homemade mac and cheese with a leafy green salad. Have salmon steaks with creamed spinach.

THANKS,BigShotsMom, I am so appreciative of your verifying what I am trying to do. I have a thryoid condition, hypo, and as strange as it seems, after my cancer treatment and losing weight,Which I didn't mind,I developed osteoperosis, and parathyroid, perhaps not in that order. I had already begun to make my own yogurt, breads, become educated in organic foods and supplimates. Of course,my body was aging, and a lot of things Iwas affected by genetically I could not control. So, I do appreciate input. I alos will be seeing my neurologist for some nerve testing. In the meantime, in between time, I've got a lot of great 'um good fatfree yogurt recipes, even my neighbor kids like them!

About Me
I've loved cooking for as long as I can remember,at least 63 yrs. I'm not saying they LET me cook then, I was 3 then, but I didi what my Nanny let me when we went to Chicago to visit, seems I remember sqeezing Ojuice. By 7th grade I was pretty well doing the simple cooking, mom worked, dad was out to sea a lot.Later, when I was married I found I could cook pretty accurately w/o measuring, and did thid successfully for many years. After quite a few illnesses and passing yrs, and faiures, I pretty much use measurins tools again. I joined AR to help get new ideas for recipes I can adjust for budgets variety and ease of preparation to accomadate low income, handicaped and mentally ill persons. I already have shared some of my recipes and prepared items with some of the folks. The response was very encouraging. At the end of garden time, wer'e hoping to use some of the produce for cookinc, more AR recipes!! I hope get my photographer grandaughter to do me some pics, as I am computer illetera
My favorite things to cook
Yeast breads, dessert breads soups, stews, stir fry,all types beans, specialty puddings. omlettes, friut butters, vegetarian specialties.
My favorite family cooking traditions
homemade spagetti sauce from scratch Oxtail soup My Nanny made great beef stroganoff from scratch, squeezed fresh orange each morning, fresh coffee, cooled on the balcony of the hotel where they lived in Chicago,I loved it I'm very persnickity about my coffee to this day,
My cooking triumphs
My husband pretty much likes it all.I think that's because he told me when we first started dating 35 years ago when he was coming to visit for dinner that it would'nt bother him if I burned the roast, his mother often did that, saying it probably was going to rain. I've tried not to burn any thing.
My cooking tragedies
5 lemon merangue pies flopped, had to throw all of them away, reall, so no one would know(was only 9 or 10) various moldy forgotten foods in the refridgerator, coconut too old in the granola, also assorted nutS not blanched either, not flavorful
