Hazelnut Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
This recipe is incredible! I have made it several times for family dinner parties, and it has become everyone's favorite. My guests now excitedly congregate in the kitchen to watch the blue flames! Like others, I have added more mushrooms and doubled (sometimes tripled) the sauce. Adding the liqueurs little by little is smart so that you can be sure the alcohol burns off and has no aftertaste, in addition to avoiding huge flames. Having made it the first time with naked Turkish hazelnuts I'd brought back from Istanbul, I was scared to try them with the skins on (all I could find in the US grocery store). It turned out perfectly and really just added more color to the nut breading! This was a brilliant idea for a meal and never disappoints. Even if you're not one to enjoy a sweet taste with your meat, it's subtle enough to be appreciated!

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
This is one of my go-to recipes when we have a full house. Everyone loves the tenderness and the savory flavors are a perfect blend. I make it exactly as written, just doubled to serve more hungry mouths!

Toscana Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
This soup is amazing!! I love the OG soup and this is as close as you can get to being inside the restaurant! I modified mine just a bit: I tripled the recipe because I wanted to fill an 8Q stockpot. I used 12c of chicken broth (didn't have any base) at first and no additional water. Because I added a bit too much crushed red pepper, I ended up using 1pt total of heavy cream (no waste that way!) and an additional small can of chicken broth to level it off. I would definitely recommend adding the kale only if you plan to serve all that you make right away. Otherwise, toss a few slices into the serving bowls as it's eaten so it stays fresh and bright green. This recipe is phenomenal, I am so happy to know the secret now!

Ultra Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2012
These are outstanding! I let them cook in the broth until the broth had almost completely been absorbed by the potatoes and they were perfect. So much flavor from the broth and cream, you don't need nearly as much butter as typical recipes! This will be my new go-to recipe for amazing potatoes!

Banana Chocolate Chip Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2010
This cake was absolutely delicious and gone in a matter of hours! As others have said, the cake turns out very thin (perfect if you want bars) if you don't either double the recipe or use a smaller pan. I think I'd prefer to double it next time--it's just that good! If you don't have the ingredients to do that, just use a 9x9 pan. It was a little boring on top, so I'd suggest dropping a few chocolate chips on top for color, or garnishing with confectioner's sugar. I loved that it was so moist and not the traditional banana bread flavor.

Soft Breadsticks

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
I really didn't care for the taste of these breadsticks. They were crunchy and a little bland. I may have made mine too thick, so the butter may not have absorbed as it was intended, but the taste just seemed to be missing something.
