I think this is a good starter recipe. The key here is lots of butter, lots of sugar and salt. Always yummy. But to get the right consistency, add a little less baking powder. I also notice that if you melt the better halfway before you mix the sugar mixture together your cookie comes out more crispy and less doughy and hocky puck like (as some of the reviewers here who rated this recipe down mentioned) This is the recipe I always take out when I want choc. chip cookies. And I apply the changes I mentioned above.
