Sweet Dinner Rolls

These rolls were very good. I do not use a bread machine, and I reduced the amount of sugar to 2 teaspoons and I only used the in the yeast and water to feed the yeast.

Egg-Yolk Sponge Cake

Very good way to use up the egg-yolks that you don't use when you make angel-food cake. I did not make this orange flavored, I used vanilla, butter, and almond flavoring.

Old Fashioned Prune Cake

Very very good. Reminded me of an apple cake, only with prunes. I also put in both black walnuts and pecans. I put Caramel frosting on it like my great-grandmother used to make. It was very good.

Caramel Frosting I

Perfect. My grandfather wanted one of his Mother's Prune Cakes with caramel frosting, and my grandmother said I would never be able to get it right, but he said this was almost exactly the same as hers. Very good over a prune cake.

Boiled Custard II

This is my aboslute favorite at Christmas. But I do it the way my great-grandmother did it. I just use the yolks when it's cooking and then when it's finished I whip the whites with some sugar, and then fold the whites into the custard while it's cooling. Then you don't have to strain it and you get good little chunks of meringue-like pieces.

Basic Biscuits

I had a huge craving for biscuits this morning, and I don't make them myself, so I tried this recipe. They tasted like bisquick biscuits..... UPDATE: I now know how to make true homemade bisctuits, and this is pretty close... so to anyone out there trying this you should definetly use buttermilk instead of regular, just use self-rising flour, and use half shortening and half butter.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Absolutely Magnificent! Best Broccoli Cheese Soup I've ever had! The only thing we did differently was we used fresh broccoli and we used less onion and butter.

Five Flavor Pound Cake I

Delicious! And came out absolutely perfect. My friend's grandmother makes a pound cake like this that's just heavenly so I wanted to try it and it was really good.

Watermelon Rind Preserves

This is great stuff. I love watermelon rind preserves and I never could find a good recipe for them. My great great-grandmother had a cookie recipe that you make with these preserves and they worked out perfect. And for one of the previous reviews, these preserves aren't supposed to "jell." Everything is supposed to stay runny and syrupy. Btw, for best results, soak in alum instead of salt water.
