About this Cook
I'm a teen who loves to cook. I especially like making healthy meals, although I have a weakness for desserts!
My favorite things to cook
Several years back I was really into foreign cuisines, so I was baking foods from Austria and Italy and Greece and Hungary and Russia, to name a few. Overall, I like making muffins, cookies, crisps, side dishes. I prefer working with chicken & fish to red meats. Some of my favorites to make (and eat!) are Sweet/sticky/spicy chicken and Thai pineapple-fish noodles. Yum!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We make green bean casserole every year for Thanksgiving. When I was a kid we'd make dozens of batches of Christmas cookies to give away as well as keep some for ourselves!
My cooking triumphs
I don't really cook anything spectacular. Mostly I cook for my parents and two sisters. I do remember feeling particularly proud of mastering sourdough cinnamon rolls though - that was fun.
My cooking tragedies
One time when I was making homemade sourdough bread, I accidentally placed wax paper on my baking sheet instead of parchment paper - then placed the bread on top and popped the whole thing in the oven at 400 degree! Needless to say, that whole batch of bread was pretty much worthless as the wax paper was melted into the bread. That's probably one of my main "tragedies"!

Chocolate Chip Peppermint Cookies
This was an amazing cookie! I followed the directions exactly, and baked them for 12 minutes. The recipe yielded 21 cookies and were simply wonderful!! These make an excellent holiday treat, but honestly I would eat them any time of the year! I love chocolate a lot, so I was a little unsure about the peppermint, but the flavors blended perfectly and the peppermint was nice and subtle, not overpowering. I highly suggest you try this!!!

Banana Banana Bread
This turned out very well. I only had about less than 2 cups of mashed banana, but it still worked. I took other reviewers' suggestions and added a splash of vanilla, 1 tsp cinnamon, and heaping 1/4 tsp each of ginger, nutmeg, and allspice; i threw in 3/4 cup of raisins too. I also spread a topping of 1 tbsp water and 3 tbsp brown sugar on top of the bread before baking. oh and cut the brown sugar down to 1/2 cup in the recipe. overall, very very tasty!!! and easy to make

Zucchini e Pomodori Gratinati (Zucchini and Tomato Gratin)
this was amazing!i was a bit skeptical before trying this dish, thinking it might be plain or not filling enough... but boy was i wrong! I followed the directions as stated, but changed a few things to fit what i had on hand: i sauteed two large zucchini in olive oil and garlic, then layered that intermittently with 4 on-the-vine tomatoes and 4 slices smoked swiss cheese instead of the mozarella. i think that enhanced the flavor a great deal. (i layered from bottom to top though, not side by side). Layered twice then topped with 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese and 2 tsp dried sweet leaf basil. I served over sourdough bread for a nice, refreshing dinner. I will definitely be making this again and would feel very confident serving this dish to guests. I highly suggest you try this!
