My grandparents lived with us when I was a young girl living at home, so two women in the kitchen was enough! I never really learned to cook until I was married. My husband was very patient, and I was very fortunate that we only lived a few miles from my parents and I was able to learn a lot from my mother and grandmother about cooking. Today, I still pull out their recipes from years ago and especially during the Holidays! What wonderful memories!
My favorite things to cook
I especially love to bake cookies, cakes, and desserts! I love baking casseroles and using my pressure cooker also for stews, pot roasts, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family tradition for Thanksgiving and Christmas is making my Mother's cornbread turkey dressing. Our family loves this and now both my sisters also makes this for their families.
I also enjoy making Lady Fingers, Chocolate Rum Balls, Cranberry Crisp Cookies, Nutty Buddy Yam Bake (which my daughter now bakes), & Apple Cranberry Casserole. These are great for the Holidays and also freeze well. It has just become a part of the season!!
My cooking triumphs
It took me several years for me to get my dressing right!! I consider that a triumph and a good one-thanks to my Mother and Grandmotherf!
My cooking tragedies
I made a Hummingbird Cake once and I was very disappointed as it was very heavy!! I have never tried another one although I think maybe they are basically heavy because of all the fruit, etc.
