About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to make bread from scratch with my hands, not a mixer or bread machine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Family recipes that have been passed down are always a family favorite. Paying attention to peoples likes and dislikes helps also.
My cooking triumphs
Learning to cook pork loin and pork chops really is a talent. So often they are over cooked and tough. Searing with high heat then indirect heat until internal temp of loin is 140 degrees is the secret.
My cooking tragedies
Pumpernickel bread. For whatever reason I can not get this to come out well.

Ricotta Cookies I
I made this cookie with leftover Ricotta Cheese. Very soft and chewy. I made a few changes. I used margarine instead of butter, used dried cranberries instead of candied fruit and used pecans in the recipe along with on top. I also dusted them with powdered sugar when they were cool.

Oatmeal Date Cookies
I doubled the recipe before printing it out. According to the recipe it should have made 48 cookies, 4 dozen. I got 11 dozen using a small cookie scoop per it calling for dropping by the teaspoon. Very good cookie and because I had so many, I sold them by the dozen to friends who also loved them. Would be great to make for bake sales or gifts. Can't imagine how big the cookies would be were there only 48. I baked 12 to a cookie sheet. They also took 10 - 12 minutes in my oven but that could very according to each over and perhaps between electric and gas, I have gas. I will make again.

Date Nut Pinwheel Cookies II
Cookies are very good. Recipe called for cinnamon in the flour mixture but refers to it in the description as being in the filling. As I don't remember a cinnamon taste in my Moms I just left it out. I also used stick margarine instead of butter because that was what I had on hand. I made the 3 rolls and got 72 (6 doz) cookies, even better than the 60 listed. This is as close as I am going to get to my Mothers recipe, which I haven't found, yet. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
