I am a SAHM who didn't know beans from apple butter about cooking homemade meals, breads, and goodies from scratch 6 years ago. I have learned quite a lot and have become familar with things like baking powder, baking soda (I thought that you only used this in your fridge) yeast, and even spices! I love finding new recipes to make, although, my family sometimes does not like being the guinea pigs;) I am totally disorganized at heart and I try to make meal plans and stick to them, which militates against my personality, but it helps keep us fed. I love my rice cooker, crockpot, and bread machine more than most of my earthly possessions.
My favorite things to cook
I like to make authentic "true to the culture" types of foods. My main experiments include Korean, Filipino (we lived there for 2 years, so I sorta picked up some of the meals) Mexican, Cuban, Indian etc..
My favorite family cooking traditions
not really any except making homemade chicken strips.
My cooking triumphs
making and baking Bread! I also like to make pita bread, whole wheate french bread and English Muffin bread along with a varitety of different types of Whole wheat bread.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list, but some have been gumbos, breads, stews, casseroles, and granola
