May need to adjust the sugar, depending on the sweetness of the berries - otherwise this is great.

Korean BBQ Short Ribs (Gal-Bi)

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
Great. My partner doesn't normally like marinated meats. This is the exception. It would be best (like most other meats) to cook over the grill, but we made do with stove-top cooking. Added stir fry veggies on the side. Summer plans include grilled pineapple.

Potato Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2010
I thought I followed the recipe pretty close. What changes I did make should have helped the results - 4 slices of bacon instead of 2, a stalk of celery - but I ended up with a watery mild flavored soup. It was good...just not what we think of when we say "clam chowder". Not the hearty comfort fare we expected.

Rugelach (custom)

Before I say anything about this recipe - you need to know I do not like raisens or nuts in ANYTHING (cookies, cakes, fudge, etc.). Having said that - this recipe is great! I had trouble rolling it up so they did not leak, but will work on that next time. The nutella was a great addition. This is a keeper in my recipe book.

Nutella ™ Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2009
We are fans of Nutella, and of both styles of cheesecake (baked & not). This was neither. I followed the recipe with the changes recommended - egg, baked, no sugar. The sweetness level was about right...but it was the only thing right about the dish. The dessert itself was very smooth, dense & heavy reminiscent of the original cream cheese bar it came from. It did not taste anything like a cheesecake - either style. The normally wonderful taste of Nutella was reduced to an ambiguous bleh. I was looking for a recipe for a special baked dish to take to an upcoming event..this was not it.

Cheesecake Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
I was hoping for a fresh ice cream with good taste & texture. Something light and non-descript in flavor. This one is not a keeper. Pros: Easy enough to make - no cooking. Common ingredients - no special trips to the store to make it. Has a great consistency and texture. Cons: Has a weird after taste, almost a bite to it. Doesn't taste like "cheese cake" at least none I've ever had.

Avocado, Tomato and Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2006
I thought the idea of mango, avacado, onion and tomatos together was a really strange one. I made this anyway. I did make a few changes according to my family's tastes- left out the cilantro completly, used half of a large Anehiem pepper instead of the jalpeno (to cut the heat). This is wonderful. My husband (notorious meat & potatos guy) just knew this was going to be another of my crazy ideas...until he had his first taste. Now he is wandering the kitchen trying to figure out something else he can put this on. I would make a single batch for 2-4 people, but I can see where a potluck or large gathering would need a 3x recipe. This would also be good on fish tacos. This will be a common addition to this summer's grilling.

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2006
Forget any cream of mushroom soup you have tasted. This is anything but bland. A local restaurant has this as thier signature dish and people will drive 30+ miles for it. I was glad to find a recipe so I can make it at home.

Magic Cookie Bars III

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2006
The came out terrible. Even the guys at work did not eat them. There was no balance between the ingredients - too much crust, not enough chocolate. Parts were so hard they ended up going out to the birds. I was very careful in following the recipe, since this was the first time I had made them. I am no t a novice cook, and yes I do know the difference between evaporated and sweetened-condensed milk.

Deb's Scallops Florentine

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2005
We just had this tonight - and it was great! My partner insists he is not much on "seafood" unless it is fried catfish or shrimp. He also has a strong aversion to "foo-foo" food, which this clearly is. Even at that - he put this in the recipe book himself!! I made a few changes: Deleted - Old Bay Seasoning (I don't like the taste of it). Also did not precook the scallops, based on other reviews - it was a good call. I also have a way of making the sauce without the added butter. The less fat in this dish, the more often we can have it! Added - 2 cups cooked rice to bottom of dish (I'd prefer a wild/brown mixture myself, but SOMEBODY only likes white rice). Topped with 5-6 mushrooms, sliced & sauted. Substitutions - 5 Italian Cheese mix for mozzerella and non-fat half & half for heavy cream (yes, they do make such a thing). I also used fresh spinach (1 bunch) but I think I will use whole leaf frozen next time and see how that works. If not then I will use 2 bunches of fresh - dry fry until soft and lay out in a layer over scallops. Things to change for next time - make a double batch of sauce. This was certainly a great dish, not much work, and well worth the effort. I would serve it to company any day. I can see that it can be made up ahead of time, and refrigerated before baking. Serve with a salad, maybe bread and something very light for dessert. Even without the salad this will serve 6 at our house easily.

Banana Caramel Fluff

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2005
Easy to make. Tastes like a lot more work than it takes to make them. Is very good as side to ice cream. Depending on your presentation, can be an elegant surprise ending to the meal. I have also made these sealing the bananas in the middle of an individual crescent roll.

Apple Enchilada Dessert

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2005
WONDERFUL!! This is my husbands favorite. Of course he looked at my funny when I said something about "apple enchilades" but these are now on the top of his "please make" list. I have also taken a larger version of this to a potluck. Everyone loved it. Instead of the canned pie filling I use this filling. http://pie.allrecipes.com/AZ/ApplePieFilling.asp Since it is in my freezer, it is just as easy and tastes so much better.

Apple Pie Filling

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2005
Easy to make - came out great! I used 2 *Tbs* cinnamon, but we like extra cinnamon. The sugar needs to be adjusted - both for personal tastes and the sweetness of the apples used. As others have said, this can be used for so much more than just making a pie - our favorite is the apple enchilades.

Better Help for Hamburger

While the recipe itself may be good (have not made it) I find the name very misleading. I thought it would be a recipe for a dry mix you can make yourself to replicate the over-priced store bought mixes.
