I love cooking, baking, creating and decorating. I'm going back to school in the spring & also work full time, so I haven't been able to find much time to cook. I have a fiance named Alex and I often cook for him, his friends and his coworkers. We are expecting our first baby in June 2013 and couldn't be happier. Surprise, surprise :)
I am a sperm-donor baby and was a very spoiled kid whose parents cooked delicious meals everyday. I had my own pony named Buttercup & we had 10 other horses, pigeons, 4 dogs, a rabbit, beta fish, 3 rats, 2 cats.. So I'm a BIG animal lover! :)
Seriously - I always tell people, if I was rich, I would buy a gigantic plot of land and take in all of the homeless animals I possibly could. Not like an animal hoarder, but more like a no-kill animal sanctuary.
I can't wait to get through school and start a life with the guy I love, adopt a couple animals, do a lot of cooking and reading and take care of our future children :)
My favorite things to cook
Anything pretty. I'm not very talented in making food appeasing to the eye. I love italian food. Pastas are usually my favorite, but since I became pregnant, I've been really picky and something that sounded great two minutes ago, now sounds disgusting. So.. I guess whatever I'm craving that very moment is my favorite thing to cook..
My favorite family cooking traditions
Nacatamals! I remember we'd gather the family in CA and lay out all the ingredients. We'd all fill the tamales with one ingredient and pass them along to the next person who would fill it with the next.
My cooking triumphs
Yippee! I can finally say I have a cooking triumph! I cooked Easter dinner for 10 people this year ALL BY MYSELF. Well.. I guess the fiance helped a little, but not much. IE: He chopped an onion.
Everything turned out perfectly too, sans a few minor inconveniences.. I was so proud and everybody was so impressed :)
My cooking tragedies
When I tried to impress the in-laws by baking cupcakes for a younger brother-in-law's birthday.. The cupcakes were great, but the frosting? Not enough sugar in my cream cheese frosting and it tasted awful. And of course, the mixer had to blow a fuse when I was whipping up a coconut meringue frosting!! I was so desperate that I sat there and whipped with a whisk for two hours. Since then, I've been lucky enough to receive a Kitchenaid ;) another - I can NOT make anything from a box to save my life! I tried making an angel food cake from a box when pressed for time.. It exploded all over the oven.
