About this Cook
I'll try to cook pretty much anything. On the rare occasion when I'm not in a particularly friendly mood, it goes badly. Just proves my theory that cooking is more about love - of food and for whom it is being prepared - than talent.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My cooking triumphs
Not one bit of my 17-lb turkey was left at the end of Thanksgiving day this year. My friends and family stood around my kitchen island picking it apart.
My cooking tragedies
Really ugly homemade cakes. Though they taste fantastic if one can get past the ugly.

Crab Stuffed Mushrooms
These sounded so easy and the recipe itself appealed to all of my Christmas guests. I made the recipe as written and was disappointed. We didn't eat half of them. Maybe next time I want to make a recipe like this, I will try using fresh crab meat (certainly more work) and add some panko. Sorry, these just weren't good.

Easy Chicken and Corn Chowder
Worked well for me. Like a previous reviewer, I didn't have chicken stock. I boiled the chicken and used the broth. It may have had a more rich flavor with stock but I had already subbed 1/4 bacon fat for some of the butter so nobody noticed. I would recommend paying attention to salt and pepper amounts. This chowder is heavy on corn, potatoes and cream - all of which soak up salt. After cooking and adding salt at various steps, it still wasn't "salty". If you're worried about adding too much salt during the process, just add to taste at serving time. Froze well, too.

Amish White Bread
LOVE IT!!! It's the first white bread recipe that I have made that I liked. The instructions don't say how long to knead so I did for 10 minutes and it came out fantastic! My husband even liked it so much, he put up a post on FaceBook about how great it was!
