On my daughter's birthday
About this Cook
I am a nursery school teacher and director. I have been teaching for over 30 years and I love to cook with the preschoolers! My daughter and I have cooked together since she was little. We like to share recipes, cookbooks, and cook together even now that she is grown up. My mom is a great cook and hostess and even my dad can cook well. My husband and I have been married since 1973. We like to travel and have been to all 50 states. We are active in our church and in choirs. I also love to do yoga and read. I belong to a book club. I like crafts and sewing but don't do as much as I used to.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and enjoy making new kinds of cookies. I like to do cake decorating too. We have a big vegetable garden so I like to experiment with new veggie recipies. I also like ethnic recipes, especially Middle Eastern and Asian.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother got me interested in cake decorating and I make all the family cakes and some for friends. I also make all the graduation cakes for the nursery school where I work. My daughter and I get together before Christmas one day evert year and bake 6-7 kinds of cookies while listening to Christmas music.
My cooking triumphs
After our trip to Hawaii we had a luau at our Pennsylvania home that included a pork roast, coconut shrimp, Spam, and other dishes, drink, and hula! We also had a dinner after our Alaskan cruise. It was fun sharing our trip with others through food, stories, and music! I also love to hear our grown-up neice reminicing about the themed birthday cakes I made for her and her brothers every year when they were little.
My cooking tragedies
I once baked a stand up panda bear cake that collapesed when I took it out of the pans. I didn't have time to make another so I crumbled up the whole cake and mixed the crumbs with Coolwhip to make a dessert. It was actually very good!
