I am 58 yrs. old, and have learned by experimenting in my own kitchen with the hel from greater cooks than I, who have unfortunately preceeded me. i have learned all the basics from them...namely, my mother,as well, as, my Aunt Ruth, who have taught me what it means to be, not only a good. and respectable woman, but also a gracious hostess and excellent cook. My hat goes off to both of them, as well as, my love and gratitude.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking a variety of things, beginning with our southern favorites, and branching out to Italian, and some Mexican cuisine, as well. I also equally enjoy baking also. My grand children especially seem to enjoy my cooking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Lasagna would be one family tradition. My family enjoys my broccoli casserole, and macaroni and cheese, and oh yes, lest we forget... my fried chicken.
My cooking triumphs
I have triumphed over the hurles of just cooking the southern recipes, and been able to branch off into the unknown, into the "stir fries, and the asian, and the mexican cuisine",
My cooking tragedies
My first cooking tradgedy was at 18 yrs, old, when I attempted to fry chicken for the first time. I was a newly wed, and 3000 miles away from home at the time. I was attempting to suprise my husband with a home cooked traditional southern meal. i had also attempted making potato salad for the first time. Bad day: The meal consisted of fried chicken which wasn't done, and potato salad which was prepared with dill pickles instead of sweet pickles. I did get one thing right: He was, indeed , suprised!
