Nauvoo Gingerbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2011
i thought these turned out nicely. my preschool-age daughters had a great time helping roll out the dough, cutout the shapes, and decorate. the taste was agreeable with everyone in our family too. i did implement a couple of minor ingredient tweaks: substituted butter for lard, and only used 4 cups of flour. even after cutting down the flour, the dough was a bit too dry and crumbly. next time i may try 3 1/2 cups of flour instead (perhaps lard absorbs more flour than butter?). i may double the ginger next time as well, as i like my gingerbread a little more ginger-y. all-in-all, this recipe is a keeper. we'll be making these cookies a holiday tradition in our home!

Simply Fudgy Brownies

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2011
Mmmm! These are fantastic, I wouldn't change a thing. I've tried about a half-dozen other brownie recipes, and they usually come out too cakey and fluffy. These are fudgy, chewy, and dense - just the way I like 'em. And simple enough to make that my 3-yr-old helped out. We ran out of vegetable oil while mixing ingredients, so we had to substitute with coconut oil. Seemed to add extra richness, fine by me. This is one for the recipe box!

Oma's Fabulous Matzo Ball Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
excellent flavor, thanks for this great recipe! texture was a little bit dense, maybe i didn't let them cook long enough? i'll experiment next time, giving them another 5-10 minutes cooking.

Rum Balls I

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2010
These turned out very well, but were toxically sweet. Instinctually, I reduced the amount of sugar to 1/4 of what the recipe called for, and they were still too sweet for my liking. Given that you'd only eat 1 or 2 at a holiday gathering, they are ideal for a quick no-bake dessert to share with MANY others!

Soft Gingerbread Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
these were easy to make, and turned out great. i did modify the amount of butter to 3x what the recipe called for, and will prob do 4x next time (1/2 cup, or 1 stick). the dough becomes too crumbly otherwise. that aside, great results from this recipe!

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2010
these came out great. easy to make, moist, chewy, gingery. i've made them w/o rolling in granulated sugar also, for a slightly less sweet treat. have also substituted whole wheat flour, and they came out just as good.

Matzo Balls

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2010
the dough was very sticky, did not form easily into balls in the short amount of time it took for the water to boil. the result was essentially dumplings, which were somewhat dense.

Hello Dollies II

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2010
Its hard not to love these cookie bars, especially if you are a big fan of coconut. They were so easy to make. I may embellish next time with butterscotch or peanutbutter chips, in addition to the chocolate chips..
