This would have been 5 stars but I added things not on the recipe. Even with my alterations I thought it needed a little salt or other seasoning when eating it, but my husband advises not to add any extra seasoning to the pot since you can always add more seasoning at the end but you can't unseason it.
From advice of other reviewers, I added:
1 T worcestershire, 1/2 t onion powder & 1/2 t garlic powder.
I wanted a whole meal out of it so I also added skinned halved red potatoes & baby carrots (whole, except thick ones I cut in half) to cook for last 4 hours. It was the perfectly cooked. Glad I'd read advice on a few pot roast recipes before making this. (They said if the veggies cook the entire day with the roast they get mushy.)
My husband is the cook, I fail miserably usually. He makes everything great & competed in BBQ competitions for years. Last time I tried a french dip crockpot recipe he wouldn't even try it. But the aroma when he got home from this one hooked him. He went back for thirds, then drank the juice left on the plate, then went back to get the onion pieces with a fork! Our one year old made "mmmm" noises when eating the veggies, which she has never done before. I'd say it was a success!
