I am part of a family of 6. I am married to Jason and have four children, Kaeo, Charley, Angus and Summer. We live on a beautiful section next to a park pretty central in Whangarei. We are Christians. I want to homeschool. I really enjoy cooking and doing things with my family and friends, outdoors, indoors, anything.
My favorite things to cook
I get inspired by deserts, healthy things, new things, breads, and just about anything. I love doing occasion cooking with my kids, like birthday cakes, decorated christmas cookies and cupcakes etc. I also like cooking with my little 2 year old daughter when she can help, although she constantly steals food. Its great having a family to cook for, otherwise I would probably be completely bored.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mum is a great cook. She can cook for lots of people and make it look easy. Everything she makes is nice. She has quite a few dishes that she has been making since I was a kid and they are still very nice.
My cooking triumphs
Cutting added salt out of most of my cooking (except when we have guests) and still preparing nice meals. Have also had to go low carb and dairy free at times, and have managed suprisingly well. Adapting to such cooking contraints can be surprisingly constraining, but can work out. I am now almost completely happy cutting out pretty most added salt. I can make yummy healthy meals while also making some great deserts, like tiramasu, cheesecake and triffle, plus christmas cake. Although admittedly some of my best recipes were from allrecipes.
My cooking tragedies
I'm sure I have had them. Often things can be fixed up, adjusted or covered over. I know I have made some ballsups but I can't remember them precisely now, probably because they were relatively inconsequential. One of the most consequential things I have done was leaving most of the food in the fridge (at home) when I was going to put on a quite large birthday party at the beach. I thought I was unusually prepared, but then forgot to bring everything. Bizarre. Now I get my husband to do allot of the organising. A happy goodbye to that job.
