Sugar Cookie Cutouts

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
I've never found a better sugar cookie recipe. These are not too sweet and frost perfectly - no breaking! They are nice and thick.

Taco Seasoning I

This is the best recipe! Omit the salt, and you'll never notice it - a great alternative to those store-bought seasonings that are high in sodium.

Banana Bread VIII

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2005
Wonderful recipe! I actually had eggs, but tried this just because of the reviews. The bread cooked for 1 hour and 20 minutes for me, and came out a dark brown (but not burned) with a nice soft interior. I used four bananas because I had them on hand, and only 3/4 cup of sugar. Highly recommended!

Colorful Vegetable Fajitas

This is a simple recipe made with what I already had on hand. We loved the flavor and will make them again and again!

Marinade for Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2005
I marinated vegetables (squash, zucchini, red pepper) for about 18 hours before grilling, and they turned out very well! My only complaint is that the recipe is a bit sour, and I would use less lemon juice next time, but overall the grilled veggies got rave reviews from my carnivore friends, which is high praise.

Fresh Tomato Salsa

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2005
This is a great, easy recipe! I vary the amounts by what I have on hand, and use less cilantro just by taste preference. I tend to use the food processor to chop the tomatoes and onions because it is easier, but this does give a more "soupy" salsa. I haven't had any complaints!

Potato Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2002
I liked this soup, but the addition of the swiss cheese really disagreed with me, and I wasn't interested in the leftovers. Next time I make this, I'll use cheddar cheese. I used a homemade vegetable broth, and added a dash of cayenne, which made it much more flavorful. The texture is perfect, though, and overall it's a very hearty meal! I chose to serve it with a green vegetable and small slices of bread from a baguette.

Black and White Cookies I

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2002
This is a great recipe! It is worth the time, although I'm not sure if I thought that while I was making them.... But I certainly did after I tasted them! I ran out of confectioner's sugar and ended up melting both white and dark chocolate chips for the frosting, which actually was a big hit. I almost burned the first batch, though. I had to turn the heat down to 325 degrees and only baked them for 9 minutes-they were perfectly golden brown. A must-make!

Cincinnati-Style Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2002
A great chili recipe! I've tried to find a good vegetarian version and this one is the best so far. The addition of atypical chili spices may make you skeptical, but the finished product is worth the risk! I added two medium vine-ripened tomatoes, chopped, when the canned tomatoes were added to increase the flavor. Next time I will halve the water, as ours was too watery and we had to simmer it uncovered for about 10 minutes extra. However, that 10 minutes made the beans just tender enough, and I would add them half-way through the simmering time to make sure they are tender enough for the next time. Another suggestion would be to halve or leave out the brown sugar, it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but will definitely make it again!

Very Fruity Rum Punch

Reviewed: May 5, 2002
This punch went over very well, we doubled the recipe and probably could have quadrupled it and still been short. I didn't think there was enough alcohol in it, so we remedied that by adding about 1/4 cup more per gallon, and that did the trick! I also added fresh pineapple to the floaters and thought that gave it a good kick. I did have trouble finding frozen pineapple concentrate so used pineapple/orange/apple juice and it was great!

Easy Hummus

Reviewed: May 5, 2002
This hummous was excellent, and received rave reviews from my guests. I didn't miss the tahini, and loved the addition of fresh jalepeno, it was just spicy enough. Next time I will double the amount of the garbanzo bean liquid to 2 Tbsp. for a more smooth texture. But there will certainly be a next time!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: May 5, 2002
WOW!! This is a fantastic appetizer/dessert! It was the hit of a party we just had, and I think every single person there asked me to forward the recipe! Next time I will add a bit less sugar in the salsa, as I would have liked it a little more tart. I also don't think the preserves were necessary. For the cinnamon sugar, I used 2 cups of sugar and 1/2 Tbsp cinnamon. Also, 8 minutes in the oven was perfect for the chips, 10 min. was too long. Will make this again and again and again... even if my guests don't force me to!

Chinese Noodle Pancakes with Asparagus

Reviewed: May 1, 2002
Wow!! This is now one of my favorite recipes, and it really impresses a crowd! I made them exactly as directed, except for cooking the noodle pancakes over medium-high heat, not high. They were burning on high. I let them fry for about 3 min on either side. This time may vary depending on how well your pan conducts heat. I will make these again and again and again! It is much easier than it sounds, and totally worth it!

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I

These cookies were too hard for my taste, but still were very good. I added a teaspoon of vanilla after the eggs for more flavor, and halved the amount of oatmeal by necessity (I ran out...). Everyone at work really enjoyed them!

Risotto with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Mozzarella

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2002
This risotto was delicious! It came out creamy and tender after cooking for about 30 minutes. Well worth the time, and the recipe is fairly easy. Be sure the rice doesn't stick by giving it a stir every now and then. I found that the rice became tender more quickly if I covered the pan after ladling in the broth. The sundried tomatoes with basil were very tasty! Make this risotto with the Asparagus with Parmesan Crust recipe on this site-it was wonderful!

Asparagus with Parmesan Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2002
This recipe is a great addition to any risotto. I served it as a side dish with the Mozzarella and Sun-dried Tomato Risotto recipe from this site. It was a hit! Next time I'll use an olive-oil based cooking spray instead of the olive oil for a lighter taste. Also, try using bigger asparagus spears, or cut down on the cooking time for baby spears. My baby spears were overdone at 12 minutes in the oven.

Classic Minestrone

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2002
This was the first really good soup I've made thus far! I liked the flavor, but next time would prefer it a bit spicier. I added slightly more noodles than called for, and would recommend NOT doing that, as it made it much too thick, especially after refrigeration. I did make it a day in advance, and it kept well for a week until we ate it all! Thanks!

Best Brownies

Really easy and so fudgy! I loved them, and will make them many more times in the future! The only complaint I had is that my frosting did not spread as easily as I would have liked... but the taste makes up for it!

Caramelized French Toast

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2002
Well, make sure your water added to the melted brown sugar is PIPING hot... mine wasn't and it hardened the brown sugar on contact. No matter how much I heated it after that, I never got a good caramelizing mixture. I'm disappointed, and probably won't try it again.
