Applesauce Sandwich

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2010
I can't believe I actually tried this. The texture was terrible and (not surprisingly) tasted bland. Even if the bread is toasted properly, the sandwich sags and resembles eating pre-chewed food.

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2010
Turned out perfect. I didn't have sun-dried tomatoes on hand, but it didn't need them! I mixed ingredients into a large bowl (minus bread/cheese) and chilled until ready to eat. The flavors blended well and were great on toasted French bread.

Buttermilk Oatmeal Muffins

These tasted great, but I think they taste even better with fruit added.

Best Black Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
This is a great black bean recipe. I took advice from past reviews and reduced the onion to my preference (about 1/4 of a small/medium onion) and cooked with chicken broth. The beans came out very spicy for me so I will cut the spice in half next time I make it. :)

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
I first tried these as a scaled down recipe to 6 (I know, silly), and they came out okay. I still used one egg for the recipe even though it was scaled down and it still had a nice chewiness. I tried it again recently as is and it is better than the scaled down version. A good outer crunch to the cookie and chewy middle. It is a great texture. Just put in chocolate chips to your preference.

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2010
I didn't have luck with this one. I prepared the mixture and let the chicken sit in it ahead of time (about two-3 hours) like some other reviewers did. The smell was incredibly strong, and I was afraid it would just taste like mustard and nothing else. After baking it I tasted it - no mustard taste, and a dull honey flavor that barely held onto the chicken. It was a waste.

Donut Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
These were quick to make and they taste awesome. I took advice to only use a 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg, but should have gone with the original amount. The taste of the muffin was great, but when you bite it was more of a 'memory' of what a donut tastes like (it doesn't taste like you were eating a real one, but with it being muffins it should be expected). I think maybe with the original amount of nutmeg the donut flavor would be more prominent.

Molten Chocolate Cakes With Sugar-Coated Raspberries

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
This recipe was very easy. I cut down the recipe down for two people with good results. When I filled the muffin pan with the batter halfway it puffed to the top and actually deflated back to its original size upon taking them out of the oven. I then stacked two little cakes in between ice cream - delicious. When making the cake, I tempered the eggs with a tablespoon or two of the hot chocolate before stirring all of it in. I greased the pan without using liners and they popped out fine with a tap. For me, a cooking time of about 7 minutes was fine.

Bananas Foster II

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2010
I tried this recipe on a whim and it was delicious. Simple recipe, quick to make, and the flavor is great. I had it with chocolate ice cream because it was all I had, but I do believe it will be even better with vanilla. It it reminiscent of banana bread.

Pierogi (Polish Dumplings)

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2010
This recipe was spot on for the dough. Once cooked, it had the perfect texture for pierogies. The potato filling was okay for me, I think I would have preferred a different potato mixture. It is important to roll out your dough very thin, or the pierogies won't cook properly (this happened to a few of mine). I had these both fresh and frozen, and were delicious on both occasions.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
This recipe for shortbread was delicious. I put a little extra sugar (maybe a Tbsp or two) to flatten out the cookies, then dipped in melted chocolate.

Cheesy Rosemary Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2010
I made the mistake of not adding enough cheese, and the dish came out dry. The potatoes still had a nice herb flavor to it though. I felt that the breadcrumb topping was a bit much for my personal taste, so I will cut that down if I make it again.

Fluffy French Toast

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
This did not turn out well. I followed the recipe exactly, and found that it did not produce enough mixture for the slices. The taste was bland. Had to liberally use the syrup...

Roasted Mushroom Salad

Reviewed: May 18, 2010
I wasn't crazy about this as a salad, but the mixture was perfect for a pasta sauce I used. I took the leftovers of this recipe and cooked it with onions, chicken, and some crushed red pepper. Delicious!

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Delicious soup. Very simple to make, and easy to make personal additions to. I didn't use enchilada sauce because of an allergen issue so used an extra can of tomatoes.

This recipe has good potential. Using the ingredients listed it came out bland after cooking; not sure why. I will try it again sometime with some personal touches.

A good meal with potential for adding your own touches without any consequences. Timing to cook raw potatoes with the sausage is perfect.
