Mustard Sauce for Ham

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
Halved the recipe and only used 1/4 cup sugar. Still way too sweet for our liking. Not quite what I expected. My family thought the flavor was a little overwhelming on our delicious ham.

Egg Noodles

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
Very disappointing, the texture was okay, definitely rolling them thinner is better, but even my homemade chicken noodle soup couldn't mask how bland these noodles were. On the plus side, I gave this 3 stars because I do think with some tweaking it would be a great recipe. For now I'll stick with the my mother's recipe (my favorite) that calls for 3 egg yolks, 1 egg and a lot more salt. Although I may consider trying milk and butter in it and see what happens! Tip: a food processor fitted with the dough blade mixed the dough up beautifully.

Kate's Light n' Fluffy Buttermilk and Chocolate Chip Waffles

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
I'm giving it 3 stars, even though my family thinks it only deserves 1, because the batter was light and fluffy and without the chocolate chips would probably make for a pretty good waffle. However, they are a bit time consuming and there were WAY too many chocolate chips in them. You could easily halve the chocolate chips and still have a chocolate chip waffle, only it wouldn't have such over-powering flavor. I served them topped with strawberries and whipped cream. My husband and my 5-year-old both requested that I never make these again.

Light Wheat Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2005
These rolls have a good texture and that's about it. They are cooked too hot which means the outside is dark and the inside is doughy. Not only that, but they are sicky-sweet. With a lot of tweeking it could be a good recipe, but as-is it falls really short.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2005
This has become a favorite with my family. I substitute the beer for chicken broth and it turns out particularly well when I substitute the corn for a can of yellow hominy. Lime wedges to squeeze over it and a touch of cilantro make for an easy complete meal for a busy day.

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2004
Loved this recipe since the first time I tried it. I recommend doubling the dressing, if you like the lime flavor don't be stingy with the lime. I never worry about thawing my corn. I put it in the strainer with the canned beans when I'm rinsing the beans and then toss the whole lot into the warm couscous. Thus I don't have to remember to take the corn out of the freezer to thaw it.

Avocado Salsa

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2004
This salsa is where I first discovered I like avacodos! Very good. Needs more salt. Also if you have leftovers the avacodos tend to deteriorate to solve this problem... make sure you don't leave any leftovers!!!

Wild Rice Chowder

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2004
I love this chowder. The flavor is great! It has become my favorite soup. I've cooked it as is several times and also left out the carrotts. Either way it is great. Just be sure you leave ample time to cook the rice. Also, have extra chicken broth on hand for leftovers as it tends to get thicker as the days go by and the rice absorbs the liquid.

Joe's Favorite Hamburgers

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2003
We've had this recipe twice. My husband and I think the flavor is great, but we're not too hip on the texture. I usually make four burgers and freeze the second two raw and throw them on the grill when I need them. Both times I have done this we have liked the way the taste and grill up better after they are frozen. Go figure! It's great to have a recipe that's not just plain hamburgers once in a while. I give it a must try, but not a family favorite.

Mom's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2003
It was an okay pie crust. I thought it was too sweet and it definately could of used a pinch of salt. I've made much better crusts.

Best Marinara

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2003
Great basic marinara! I use it frequently. I do make additions to suit my tastes, a bit of sugar, a can of diced tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, more garlic. Possibilities are endless.

Banana Cake II

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2002
We found this cake very dry and heavy. It might be better as cupcakes or muffins.

Broccoli Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2001
Definately not a recipe for a food buff! My family could hardly palate it. It was very dry and the broccoli was too mushy. Could definately use some spicing up.
