Happy Birthday Marley!

"There are three hundred and sixty-four days when you might get un-birthday presents ... and only one for birthday presents, you know." - Lewis Carroll

Over the weekend little miss Marley turned

five.  What an age!  She stands between

being a baby and being a child and I stand

beside her fondly looking back and

worrying about what is to come.  This year

she will start "big-girl school" as she calls

it.  She already goes to "baby-school" (pre-

school) and while I'm thankful for the

break I'm overjoyed when she returns

home.  This fall her more independant life

will truly be underway.  In a couple years

she'll stop thinking I know everything and

realize that the world is not always so

wonderful.  I'm going to enjoy looking at

the world through her eyes as much as I can

while it is all sunshine and roses, before she

sees the shadows.  I look forward

to her school years and seeing her grow up.

I'll miss these lazy play at home days but

I'll enjoy hearing about her day and

watching her excitment as she learns new

things and makes new friends.

Her birthday party was attended by family

only this year and was held inside.  Of

course we had way too much food.  Marley

requested sandwiches, "pink" punch and a

banana cake.  My grandmother brought

ham sandwiches, pickles, cheese and

sauasages.  My sister-in-law brought fresh

mango salsa and corn chips.  My mother

made two gigantic veggie trays with dill dip

and ranch dip.  My mother-in-law made

two giant fruit trays with a sweet raspberry

cream dip.  I made Marley's Pretty Pink

Princess Punch, heart shaped peanut butter

and jelly sandwiches, Banana Cake VI with

chocolate buttercream in the center, pink

butter cream on the outside with Pro

Ganache poured over the top, Heart-

Shaped Coffee Cake, Smokey Sweet Pepper

Hummus with pita chips and Roasted

Chicken Salad sandwiches for the adults.

 So much food!

Everyone had a wonderful time, the

children played a game of Pin The Tail on

the pony and played with makeup and the

adults ate until they could hardly walk, and

then we tucked into that delicious coffee

cake!  It was a special day for a special child

and a party I'll not soon forget.  As scary as

it is now I'll probably look back on in a

couple years wishing Marley was this age

again.  My bright joyful child is no longer a

baby, but she's still our little girl and will

be for years to come.

A daughter is the happy memories of the past, the joyful moments of the present, and the hope and promise of the future.  ~Author Unknown

Happy Birthday Marley!!! Sooo adorable! And dang Sarah-May, you got me all teary! You know, my daughter may be 8 but there's days when she wants to be held like a baby and when she gets a teensy-weensy cut, she always wants to put a band-aid on :).

Ah, what a sweet birthday blog to share! I've a birthday to plan next week for my 18 yr old. Seems like only yesterday I was trying to make race car cakes for him. My, how the time does fly!

How precious. Someday Marley will come to you when she is all "growed" up and tell you that you were right about something. It is one of the sweetest phrases after a lifetime of parenting :) Happy Birthday from Las Vegas Marley!

Happy Birthday Marley - one of my daughter's turns 11 this weekend and she wants to know if she can borrow your tiara ?

Feb. 16, 2011 12:13 pm
Thanks Gitano, I used a neat little sandwich cutter from the dollar store to cut them. It fits the bread perfectly and wastes very litte.

Thank-you Paula :D

Feb. 16, 2011 12:15 pm
lol Doug, I don't know if it would fit her, it's plastic and built to fit a little kids head. I bet you could find her a similar one ;).

Aw! Happy Birthday to Marley! :) Sounds like a wonderful party - My daughter turned 5 last summer, so your words sounded very familiar to me!

Happy Birthday, little girl, and to Mom, too. My little girl is 37 now, and a Principal in a K-5 school. It seems like 3 weeks ago that we were taking her to pre-school 2 and then 3 days a week. Once they do start "big girl school" the time flies like you can't imagine. Enjoy each day!!

Feb. 16, 2011 12:52 pm
Christine M, thanks! Five year old girls are pretty wonderul!

Feb. 16, 2011 12:58 pm
Thanks Chris K, It's not always easy to enjoy each day but when I think of her growing up and not wanting to spend so much time for me it makes me try very hard!

Feb. 16, 2011 1:18 pm
how sweet and Kohkum Val is a member too:D Food is key at our family birthday parties too. The big girl school will change your little angel but the stories she will tell should keep the family dinners very entertaining. Will she go every day for 1/2 day or every second day. Happy Birthday Marley!

Feb. 16, 2011 3:27 pm
thanks RnG, she'll go every other day, it's a rural school. And didn't ya know, everyone who is anyone is a member of this site :P.

Happy Birthday Marley! Sarah-May, I remember when my nieces were that age, so sweet and innocent. They are now 15 and 10, but it seems like yesterday they were clamoring for Aunt Sissa and Unca Teve. We've been blessed with a new nephew who will be five months old on the 20th. I sit for him one day a week and he literally changes on a daily basis. Keep appreciating your precious daughter.

Happy Belated Birthday Marley! Such a pretty little girl, looks just like her mommy. My grandaughters turned 5 this past summer. It is such a wonderful age if we just let them stay little girls as long as they want. They grow up too fast. Your food, as usual, looks wonderful.

Sounds like Marley had a wonderful birthday! And, as the mother of a 14 year old daughter, let me just say- best of luck in the coming years!!! Enjoy the sweet times while you can. I miss those long lost days when I was right about anything- now she is always right, and I am a blubbering idiot who knows nothing lol!

Feb. 17, 2011 5:55 pm
Thanks Mangel, 15 is an age that scares the cr*p out of me! Mostly because I remeber what I was doing and feeling at that age.

Feb. 17, 2011 5:56 pm
Thank you BigShotsMom! I want her to be little forever, but I know thats not realistic :).

Feb. 17, 2011 5:58 pm
Thanks Puck. You know you're not wrong about everything, she just thinks you are and in ten years or maybe 15 she'll realize how much you knew then.

Feb. 17, 2011 6:57 pm
What a great birthday party you had for her! They grow up too fast... my son turns 21 in July.

Feb. 18, 2011 7:08 am
Thank you Magnoila Blossom :). Wow, 21; I have friends who are about that age ;).

How in the world did this get by me without me commenting? Well since that sweet BIG sister's birthday has come and gone, give her a hug and squeeze and let her know that Auntie Avon didn't mean to miss her big day. She's a doll Sarah, you and Mr. Sarah have done a good job with these kiddos.

Feb. 19, 2011 5:44 am
Thanks Avon :D.

GREAT BLOG!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARLEY!!!...

Happy Belated Birthday to Marley! My "baby girl" will be 26 in August. Sometimes she is still my little 5 yr. old; but that could be because she is a preschool teacher! LOL I can still remember that first day of "big girl school" like it was yesterday. Her climbing up those big steps of the yellow bus and stopping to turn and wave pitifully at me trying to be so brave. Even walking down the aisle with her dad at her wedding I could still see that little girl of mine! Enjoy every minute with her - the years pass by quickly!
