Two weekends ago I co-catered my very firstevent with the help of my husband's aunt.  I've been cooking as a volunteer at at local youth center off and on for several years so I have cooked for larger groups of people before.  Two Story Cafe is an annual multidisciplined artists' showcase put… MORE

A few weeks ago we celebrated Mabon, the second harvest, with our Pagan family.  The best way to explain what that is is to call it Pagan Thanksgiving, it is the Autumn equinox.   We always try to do as much home grown and locally raised food as we possibly can.  This year our menu consisted of… MORE

The frost that I've been dreading came two nights ago, of course while I was sick.  So I spent a miserable afternoon cutting pumpkins and squashes (along with the last few cobs of corn) and hauling them in the children's wagon to the house.  Luckily the kids carried the smaller pumpkins and… MORE

Up here the frost comes early and the harvest seems to happen all at once.  There is so much going on right now that I can scarcely find time to turn around.  I was gifted more apples than I even know what to do with.  I've been making a batch of apple butter in the slow cooker every day this… MORE

What a roller coaster ride this summer has been.  My husband was put on stress leave in May and sent for an angiogram in July.  That was the scary bottom of it all.   From there things have climbed back up again.  The angiogram showed that he's fine and he was hired in a new position working at… MORE

I've taken a mini-vacation of sorts over the past week that was mostyly spent at home with one big exception.  Last Sunday my mother-in-law took care of my children for the day and my husband and I, along with three very good friends, packed a picnic and headed to the park.  When I speak of the… MORE

I've always liked green vegetables.  As a child broccoli was my very favorite vegetable followed closely by asparagus.  I've found some interesting ways to prepare broccoli since I found Allrecipes. Only one of my four children likes broccoli and only if it's raw.  The littler ones are only… MORE

It's not officially here yet, but it feels like summer outside.  My kids are running wild in the trees again and scratching countless mosquito bites.  When it's hot out there is nothing I love more than a sandwich for supper.  They can be simple or complex, quick or time consuming.  You can use… MORE

Last fall my wonderful Mother-in-law bought me my very first slow cooker.  No one in my family used one when I was growing up and I'd never really been exposed to them in the kitchen.  I was a little intimidated by it but within a month or so of getting it I decided to give it a whirl.  Of… MORE

I'm lucky to live very close to my younger brother and his family.  And even luckier still that we have children who are the same age and get to see each other all of the time.  I often babysit my two nieces.  All six of our  children are between the ages of 2 and 6 so they play very well… MORE

About Me
I'm a self/family taught cook. I love to try new recipes and experiment with exotic ingredients and spices. I have 4 young children and I've been married for 6 years.
My favorite things to cook
I love curries, yeast breads, (any kind of baking actually) and anything different.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The pre-Christmas appetizer party that I've started throwing for just my mom and step-dad, my family and my little brother and his family. Chinese Christmas eve at Grandma's, The Harvest feast we throw in September.
