Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2012
This is delicious. Especially frosted with a home made strawberry buttercream:) Just threw butter, strawberries and powdered sugar together (oh yeah, and a bit of straberry preserves). Tasted best chilled:) I think the frosting is what made this so amazing though, so this rating is based on the combined end product.

Peanut Butter Chip Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
These are very yumy. My BF said they were the best cookies he's ever had. Made them for a very large graduation party and they were loved by many young men (my nephews friends) and the adults alike. I find them quite sweet though, but that is normal for me.

Very good. The lime zest is super important. Regular limes work well in this.

Easy Lemon Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2012
These are easy and very pretty. The texture is very nice (for a soft, cakey cookie). My daughter loves them, as do many other people. I think that they tasted too artificial (guess I was just fooling myself by thinking that they wouldn't). I agree with the reviewer who said that they tasted like fruit loops, which may not be a bad thing for a lot of people.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2012
What more can I say? This is perfection. Added some espresso powder (sooooo goooood for adding depth to the chocolate....even if you don't like coffee). Topped with satiny chocolate glaze, sometimes I make the glaze with peanut butter chips, or a mixture of peanut butter and chocolate chips.

Buttermilk Syrup

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2012
Utter perfection. One of the best recipes on this site. I have also used a vanilla bean instead of the extract. The vanilla seeds are visable and the wonderful vanilla flavor sends this great recipe over the top!

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2012
This was one of my favorite recipes years ago. That was before I found a recipe that was topped with a rich tangy lemon CURD. It is made with many more egg yolks and butter with heavy cream, then is cooked on the stovetop until a thick custard is achieved. Making a true curd is definately the way to go!****** (although some people-like my friend's son- seem to prefer a less "lemony" version of lemon bars, and then these just might be the way to go for those people).

Fluffy French Toast

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2012
The flour is definately what makes this french toast better than some others (who knew?). I am surprised at the difference that ingredient makes. It doesn't make enough to coat 12 slices for me though, but I soak mine quite a bit.

Campbell's® Slow Cooker Savory Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2012
This has turned out extremely well for me. The inexpensive beef bottom round roast is hard to get tender, yet I was able to do it with this recipe. I did add some liquid and kept turning the roast over every few hours and basting it (for about 10) on low. It was delicious and extremely tender, better than a more expensive cut of meat to my surprise!

Hot Fudge Ice Cream Bar Dessert

I really thought this was good, but everyone else found it too rich. May make it for a different group sometime.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
I really like this cake. It is just like one my grandmother and mother used to make when I was a child. The cinnamon chocolate combo (although not my favorite mix of tastes, yet a different and fun mix) in this moist cake brought back fond memories. Thanks.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
I love this cake. Great as is, yet there are so many ways to change this recipe up. nutmeg is great in this. I also add an extra teaspoon of cinnamon. Sometimes I use 5 cups of apples and other times I add applesauce for part of the oil. Walnut oil is good in this and so healthy. I replace some of the AP flour with stone ground whole wheat flour. It's great topped with many different things. Warm with ice cream, plain powdered sugar, a caramel glaze, creme anglaise, or a lightly sweetened thin layer of cream cheese frosting (my favorite). This is healthy enough to have cake for breakfast!

Pastry Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
This is good. The vanilla bean is critical. I also used high quality european butter. This is nice and firm when cooked long enough. great filling for eclairs. One time it curdled(I was very distracted) and I thought I would throw it out, but a simple pass through a mesh strainer did the trick. A bit sweet.

Pineapple Sauce For Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
Quite good. Made it with a high quality european marmalade (more flavor, less sugar) but was still a litle sweet for my palate, so I sqeezed in a little lemon juice. I am serving this tonight on an angelfood cake buffet with several other options******. could be GREAT as an element on a BANANA SPLIT:)***** I needed to cook mine longer than the directions specified to get the thick sauce I desired. Sometimes I need to walk away from a sauce like this and let it chill to see if I have the sweetness I like. It is easy to alter with a bit of splenda. This is also a descent mix in for plain yogurt.

Pastry Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
This is delicious!!!! Even better with a seeded vanilla bean (along with some of the extract). Great flavor....not just plain sweet. I love to use it as a filling for eclairs. I always pass my custards through a mesh strainer to make sure they are extremely creamy and free of lumps, even if they don't seem to need it. I like to be absolutely possitive that it will be a completely creamy indulgence for my guests.

Oh so sophistcated. and oh so healthy. Wonderful blend of flavors, complex, yet meld together perfectly. You can easily use splenda in this recipe to knock down the calories even more (use half as much as you would sugar). What a treat for those foodies watcing what they eat!!!!!

Sweet Blackberry and Brandy Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
TRULY WONDERFUL. I use extra brandy and strain the mixture of all seeds. I have served it with french toast and monte christo sandwiches, but the most wonderful combination was when I served it with a super dark fudgy brownie and some Graters blackberry ice cream, OH.....YUM.

Heavenly Angel Food Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
This makes a wonderful angel food cake that is hard to mess up. It turns out beautifully and my youngest daughter has requestsd it several years in a row for her birthday. I will make it for her 11th tomorrow along with some sweetened balsamic marinated strawberries and some fresh whipped cream, It would be great with many different fruit toppings, so I plan on making several toppings for everyone to choose from, including a pineapple sauce. I have used plain sweetend strawberries as well. Several recipes, such as the sweet blackberry brandy sauce on this website would be great too.
