Easy Apple Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
Very good. I put some of the apples (chopped) in with the batter. Covered in a powdered sugar glaze.

Honey Bun Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
Yum! Really does taste like a honey bun. I don't put all of the glaze on it. Only about half, with even a little less milk.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
One of my favorite cookies of all time. EASY and inexpensive to make. I never use margarine, only butter, increase the spices a bit and add a half teaspoon of cream of tarter to ensure a crinkly top. I refrigerate them just a very short time and NEVER flatten them- they bake up perfectly straight from the balls. I also make them smaller (.07oz makes 40), so they can be put out with other seasonal treats. They can be served with a pumpkin dip for a pretty presentation. These are always LOVED by EVERYONE who tastes them. Try them. You won't be sorry!

Scotcharoos

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
Great! I grew up on these. Today they are one of my childrens favorites. Everyone seems to love these. They have so much flavor (not just plain sugary sweet) compared to the regular rice cereal treats.

Very yummy. I love baked goods with buttermilk, they are usually so moist (like this one). I make one and a half times the topping and add 2t vanilla to the cake.Thank you.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2012
I have been making an alfredo sauce like this for over a decade. My oldest daughter absolutly loves it and won't eat alfredo from a restaurant anymore. I use a little less milk and add sauteed mushrooms. Sometimes I throw in extra cheese.

Chocolate Oatmeal Drop Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2012
Nice texture. Moist. Very sweet. Made these because I had an extra box mix on hand, but I don't think I would buy a mix just to make these. I could definitely taste the cake mix. Loads of people at work loved these though.

Wacky Buckwheat Spice Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2012
The flavor was very good (I love the strong buckwheat taste....the batter was amazing). The texture was different, but that is to be expected. Not sure if I will make this again. If I do I will add a cream cheese frosting.

Irish Cream Creme Brulee

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2012
These were pretty good. Bought a torch for this recipe (I'd been wanting one for quite a while). Could imagine any number of liqueurs in this. The Irish cream was pretty subtle. Thanks for the recipe.

Roasted Red Pepper Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
These are good. Pretty sweet though for a dinner muffin, but people seemed to like them this way. I used asiago cheese (twice as much...still was overpowered by the sweetness of the red peppers...though we could taste the cheese more when the muffins were cold). Roasted my own peppers on the grill. My BF said they could use some spice or herbs. Worth making again and experimenting with added flavor.

Cayenne Pretzels

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
These are good. Very addictive. I had two different bags of mini pretzels in my cabinet that I wanted to use up. One were the regular pretzel shape and the other were waffle shaped. The waffle shaped ones held the flavors much better. I used half butter and half oil and threw in some Frank's Hot Sauce because we really like heat:) I baked at 250 for 15 minutes. Thank you!

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
This was pretty good. I prefer Carrot Cake three, though. I took this to work, where I take desserts almost every other day, and it was one of the few that wasn't totally gobbled up. Some people really did love it, though. Others said nothing, which is rare.

Jo's Chicken Liver Pate

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2012
This was alright. I love pate, and usually just wing it. This is the first time I have really followed a recipe for it. I had some problems not getting it smooth enough and had to push it through a metal strainer. I added lemon juice, which I love in pate. I love onions, but for me they were too strong in this recipe. Thank you, though for posting this recipe.

Cajun Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2012
This is amazing! We made it for fat tuesday. Put in a three pound bag of crawfish (before shelling). I would definately make this one again. Thank you. UPDATE: I have made this using pre-shelled crawfish and for some reason the taste suffered a lot, so I will go on shelling them from now on. I also read that to have about a pound of meat, it might be necessary to buy up to 5 pounds in the shell.

Almond Cream-Puff Ring

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2012
For now I am only rating the filling. I make as stated, but with only 1/2 tsp almond extract. I have used this many times to make the filling for a boston cream pie. It is sturdy enough to hold up to the extra cake layer, but still so soft and creamy. I can put the entire batch between two THIN layers of yellow cake, making it the creamiest boston cream pie I have ever tasted. I then top with a chocolate glaze. It is always a hit and gobbled up super fast.
