This year, we thought we'd mix it up at work and do a spin on the usual Cookie Countdown. Every day this month we're baking and sending four dozen cookies to a soldier overseas. I'll update this blog post with photos of the baking adventures as well as any submitted from families (with permission of course!). It will also include the recipient of each day and all the extra cookies that get shipped out!

We've had an overwhelming response to this - both with addresses and requests to help. If you'd like to do either, please email me at jenniferm@allrecipes.com.

This is my problem, I am making Houses for the grandkids to decorate for x-mas. I need a sugar cookie recipe to use that is stiff and solid enough to take the abuse. I've used graham crackers, and gingerbread. But they really like the sugar cookies. Can you recommend one I can use because I've lost the one I had from last year? The Sugar cookie houses look really great and they decorate better for them. Can anyone help me to find one before this weekend. I will bake them put them together before they get here for the party so any help so I won't have to do trial and error on a fixed income. I have been looking at the ones on this site and so many to choose from makes it very difficult PLEASE HELP, PLEASE HELP. LOL

Glynn - I asked a member of our editorial team and this is what she suggested: I think her best bet is The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies recipe. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/The-Best-Rolled-Sugar-Cookies/Detail.aspx She should roll it out so it’s fairly thick (a little more than ¼ inch), use the gingerbread house template to cut it into shapes, and let it chill for half an hour before baking. Bake it until the edges are golden; the centers of the cookie pieces should start to show a little color, too. (It needs to bake long enough to ensure it’ll be crisp. Let the pieces cool on the baking sheets for about ten minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Good luck—and post a photo! -Frances
