Mashed Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2014
Great reviews from the family. They were happily surprised to have bacon IN the potatoes. One person who didn't like sour cream had no problems eating this as there's no sour cream taste.

Whipped Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2014
Awesome! Perfect to top a chocolate cream pie. I did add more powdered sugar to taste and making 1 1/2 recipe gives enough for heaping cream pie. I tried dissolving gelatin and adding to keep cream firm, but didn't work out well. The bloomed gelatin doesn't dissolve in the cream so it was just little pieces of gelatin throughout the cream.

Chef John's Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2013
The buttermilk soak was perfect, but I wasn't a huge fan of the coating. It got very dark, almost burned in the time it took to cook the chicken. Usually I nibble on the breading but this didn't do it for me.

Apple Hand Pies

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2013
Used puff pastry sheets, filling was A++. My brother raved they were the best turnovers he ever had. Used a simple confectionary sugar/milk/vanilla glaze. Awesome!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2013
Thank you, thank you for this great recipe! I tried several cornbread recipes over the last few months and this is the best! Didn't change a thing and they were sweet and cooked up nice. Awesome!

Chocolate Ganache

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
This is a great, simple recipe. I used bittersweet chocolate, no liquor and used to frost cupcakes. I was unsure if the chocolate would be too bitter, but I had cream filled cupcakes so it offset it nicely.

Kielbasa for the Super Bowl®

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
This is what I'd been looking for! I tried the "Sweet and Oh So Spicy" recipe on this site and it was too spicy for what I wanted. This is perfect. I added cherries and pineapple, ccoked in my crock for several hours then kept warm until it was time to eat.

Holland Cream (White Cream Filling)

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
Yay! Found a great cream filling recipe here. I used half butter/half shortening. Only had regular (not clear) vanilla extract on hand but this didn't change the while color of the cream at all. Piped it into cupcakes. Beware, the recipe as stated makes a ton of cream. Great recipe!

Gelatin Poke Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
This is a simple, light, tasty dessert. My co-worker asks for it every chance he gets. Even sings a "Jello Cake" song. A staple in my house.

Breakfast Pies

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
These tasted great, but they were alot of work. My family seemed to think I spent alot of time preparing the meal for what they got. I may try again to see if I can streamline the process.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
I've made this many times and its always a hit. I mix the apples with the caramel before putting in the crust, then brush the top crust with the remaining caramel. I use a mix of sweet baking apples (braeburn, jonagold). With 10 mins left I brush the crust with milk and sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar. Yum!

Perfect Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2012
Very juicy. Keep in mind cooking the turkey breast side down means the legs cook first, so checking the thigh shows the proper temp half way through the cooking time. I flipped the turkey and waited for the plastic popper to pop. Will definitely use the recipe from now on!

BLT Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2012
YUMM! I added 4oz. softened cream chz, baked bacon on parchment lined sheets at 375. I did as others suggested and drained the tomatoes for a few minutes on paper towels, then added them to the dip right before serving. Added a few drops liquid smoke and green onions. Everyone loved it!

Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
Very good orangy taste, cranberries work great with it. They are somewhat light (which can be good) but I think I'll try some sour cream in them next time for a little more denseness. Thanks for the recipe!

Better Than Best Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2012
Yummy! As usual, I don't know the best way to let the chicken sit before frying without ripping the batter off when I pick them up. I compensated by doing a quick dab in the flour again before putting them in. Will definitely make again!

Orange Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
I made this for my father, who loves orange and chocolate together, but isn't a big fan of cheesecake. Unfortunately this wasn't good enough to sway his opinion. I added orange extract to the vanilla cheesecake part which kept the chocolate swirls that much more chocalty. I think I'd rather have an all chocolate cheesecake next time.

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Yay! They were so good! I added worcestshire, soy sauce and liquid smoke but followed the base recipe otherwise. My boyfriend and even his teenage son had seconds. Thanks!

Chocolate Cheesecake

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
Delicious! I tried the tricks everyone suggested regarding cracks, and it actually made a HUGE crack. (using a water pan in the oven, leaving in the oven for an hour after done baking). It was great, but I normally don't have too much trouble with cracks, so I may leave those steps out.

Love it! I wrap the cheese in the ham, pound the chicken and close with toothpicks. I pan fry in a skillet until brown then pop in the oven for 20 mins until cooked through. So yummy!

Mouse's Macaroni and Cheese

Delicious! My first time making mac n chz from scratch and was very impressed. Followed the recipe exactly. Big hit with the boyfriend. The 2nd time I made it I chopped and sauteed some onions with the butter which added another layer of flavor.
