I have used this recipe multiple times now in the last few years. It is always a huge hit with the family! I make it as shown, word for word. I discount ALL reviewers that change the recipe, and then give a less than 5-start review. Bad business, in my opinion. The recipe is perfect as-is! Don't change a thing, at the very least during your first attempt.
If I'm in a hurry, I'll purchase prepared crusts, but it's easy to cut the top crust into lattice, by cutting into 1-1.5" wide strips. I love how pouring the sauce mixture over the lattice makes it appear brown, and crisp up in the oven. I have read reviews of people using fewer apples; I actually used nine. I just cut enough up the mount high in the pie pan. If I could give it 10 stars, I would!
