Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2001
The family and I enjoyed this a lot, especially my youngest daughter, who actually ate 1 1/2 of these. We like this a lot better than the ones made with Hunt's or Manwich brand sloppy joe sauce.

Celery Chicken a la Koch

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2001
Nothing really special about it, other than the potato chips on top, which made it a little more interesting.

Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2001
I didn't have maple syrup in the house so I replaced the maple syrup with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of honey...boy did I get rave reviews from the family! Everyone loved this, including my youngest daughter who can be quite picky when it comes to vegetables. This will be seen on our dinner table again!

Pumpkin Cream Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2001
This was very tasty, but a little soft, even after 5 1/2 hours in the fridge. I made two, and froze one, which solidified it better. I recommend freezing them, then thawing them before serving, or make them one day in advance. My kids, husband, myself, and even two separate families that tasted this, loved the flavor..and it was so easy!

Green Bean and Mushroom Medley

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2001
My husband would give this recipe 10 stars if he could. He requested this two days in a row. I too enjoyed this very much, though my two girls...well you know how kids and veggies can be! I did make some changes to the seasoning portion since like the 1st reviewer said, there is quite a bit of salt called for. I just added 1 1/2 teaspoon of seasoning salt, 1/4 teaspoon of pepper, and added chopped fresh garlic (two cloves) along with the onion/mushroom mixture. This is a great change from plain ordinary vegetables, and I will be making this again and again.

Creamy Vegetable Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2001
I added more vegetables and added 1 large can of evaporated skim milk plus 1 cup skim milk (instead of the 3 cups of milk). This was loved by the whole family, and with the extra vegetables, the "thickness" of the soup didn't bother anyone. The problem was there wasn't any left over!

Easy Four Cheese Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2001
This tasted really good. I too like the previous reviewer used ricotta cheese instead of cottage cheese since I had used cottage cheese in a lasagna recipe before and my husband hated it. I think spinach could be added for a really tasty spinach lasagna.

Homemade Wonderful Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2001
Great bread. I didn't have dry milk powder so I just used warm milk, which worked very well.

Banana Nut Bread I

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2001
Great banana bread! I didn't have the buttermilk so I just used plain milk and added about 1/2 cup more mashed banana. I agree that it needs more nuts than just the 1/2 cup of walnuts. Regardless, this was outstanding, and my oldest daughter is asking when I will be making this again.

Enchilada Casserole II

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2001
This was really good! Even my youngest, who normally doesn't care much for mexican style dishes, ate two helpings of this. I will definitely make this again, and maybe add some sliced black olives and chopped green chilies.

Baked Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2001
Pretty good. My youngest said this is one of her favorite things to eat now. I did omit the green chilies, since my two girls are a bit picky and wouldn't have touched it if they saw it in there. An interesting alternative to the green bean casserole.

Cinnamon Hazelnut Biscotti

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2001
Tasty but didn't turn out the way I thought...too dry and crumbly...maybe I didn't make them right, but I won't be trying this again.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2001
Great, great pizza dough! I used 2 cups of flour at first, and added as much as it could be incorporated into the dough. The only other change was that I added 1 tsp. of garlic powder. The family likes this better than my usual dough, and the bonus is that it's SO much EASIER!

London Broil I

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2001
We broiled our london broil instead of grilling, which worked great! I had two steaks weighing a total of about 3 1/2 pounds, so I used 1 cup of soy sauce, 1/4 cup Worchestershire sauce, added 5 (LARGE!) cloves of minced garlic, and added 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder (I think I could have added more, maybe 1 full tsp.), added one more tablespoon ketchup, and marinated in an oven bag for about 8 hours. The oven bag made it easy to flip the meat, and it was an easy cleanup with no dirty bowls..just threw the oven bag away. The meat was flavorful and juicy..it didn't need any extra sauces or flavorings. I made a gravy out of the drippings...OUTSTANDING!

Glazed Meatloaf I

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2001
I've made this twice now and the family loves it. Great tasting glaze, and it made the house smell really good while it was cooking in the oven. My youngest says this is better than my normal recipe for meatloaf, so guess what? This is the meatloaf that will be served in this household from now on!

Easy Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
After my husband "begged" for a pot roast, I used this recipe..which was really good! He said it was better than the slow cooker version I had been making for years. My older daughter enjoyed the vegies that cooked with the meat, and couldn't stop eating it! It made the house smell wonderful while it was cooking.

Chocolate Eclair Dessert

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
This is a great tasting dessert. I used French Vanilla pudding, which really gave it a "custard-y" look and texture.

Cabbage Roll Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2001
The kids thought it was so-so but the husband and I enjoyed this. I didn't have beef broth, so I used chicken broth which worked great. I added two cloves of garlic to this, and I thought it tasted just like the cabbage rolls my mom used to make.
