German Leek and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2011
This was a very tasty soup. I let it simmer much longer than the recipe stated to really utilize the ham bone and, of course added a healthy dose of minced garlic just before the water went in. I did not have the cream so I just wisked in some non dairy creamer at the end. Next time I might experiment with some sour cream instead.

I thought that it was too much salt. I will half it next time. Otherwise, great ingredients.

Easy Ice Cream Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
This recipe is a great starting point. I made it for my son's 9th birthday and it was a huge hit. I did a layer of chocolate ice cream sandwiches and a layer of vanilla with fudge and crushed oreo cookies in the middle. My frosting was instant chocolate pudding mixed with cool whip. More crushed oreos and drizzled fugge on top. Awesome!

Upside Down Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
I forgot this was an upside down recipe when it was time to cook. My 13.5 lb bird was still frozen(yes, frozen). I used a very large cake pan and put the bird on a "rack" of carrots and celery, sprinkled with salt and pepper and put butter, salt, pepper, onion and sage in the cavity. I did also put the pats of butter under the skin. I covered with foil and put in the oven for 3 1/2hours, took off the foil, kicked the temp up to 375 and put it in for an additional 35 minutes. I boiled the neck and giblets with some garlic powder, sage, salt and pepper then used that liquid to baste every hour. FANTASTIC! My first whole turkey ever and I will do this every time. Next time I might remember to do it upside down.

Oven Brown Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
this was fantastic! i prepared brown rice once before on the stovetop and was disappointed. this was much better. i served it with easy baked tilapia from this site so i added a little old bay instead of seasoned salt to compliment. keeper.
