Real Hummus

Reviewed: May 9, 2012
Awesome! Nice and simple and really easy to make. I found this to be just perfect, but it's a recipe that can be easily modified if you don't like as much garlic or like more lemon.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2012
My husband started using this recipe for fresh baguettes. Excellent recipe. The taste is great - sometimes i find homemade bread a bit bland, but this is perfect.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2011
Followed recipe exactly and it turned out perfect. We used Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce based on another review (we had never tried it) and it was awesome. Easiest recipe ever.

Slow-Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2013
I followed other reviewers' advice and substituted bbq sauce for the ketchup, (2 cups) and ketchup for the chili sauce. Then followed the rest of the instructions. Hate to substitute, but it appears based on almost all reviews that this was the best way to go and they turned out delicious. I didn't want to change it and have ribs that tasted more on the ketchup side. I always use sweet baby rays, but today will try Famous Dave's.

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2010
I like cornbread when I go to restaurants, but never had any success when trying recipies at home. Usually they come out bland, dry or just tastes gross. I thought I'd give it another go again after stumbling upon this recipe...and is it ever good! This will be the only recipe I use from now on. It was moist and slightly sweet. We had it with a spanish soup and it was so tasty. I might try throwing in some extras next time like green onions or something, but plain is also very good.

Hearty Multigrain Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
This is one of the best breads I've made to date. I have been searching for a great multigrain and found it here. It is even more delicious when toasted. I don't have a breadmaker, so I made a few modifications. I mixed the water with 2 tbsp honey (instead of brown sugar), then added 1 tbsp. yeast (based on some of the comments posted) and let sit 10 min. I also used 1 tbsp of whole milk instead of powder. I didn't have millet so doubled up on the quinoa and it gave the bread a nice crunchy texture. Baked 375 for 30 min. So yummy!

I'm not one for using processed food, but if you're looking for a quick fix this one is super easy and yummy. A nice treat.

Delicious Black Bean Burritos

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2014
I followed this recipe as written and was surprised (based on all the reviews) at how bland it was. I even added hot sauce and it didn't help much. Next time I make it again, I'll leave out the cream cheese and add some rice and cheddar cheese instead to make it a real burrito. Out of all the 5 star recipes I've made from this site, this was the first that wasn't that great but again most people have altered it. I think that adding another cheese would make a lot of difference in the taste, so I would highly recommend it for flavour.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2014
This was good. I must say my husband loved it and I thought it was just good, but will probably make again as it's a nice change from time to time. I followed it exact with the exception of the beef bouillon. I didn't want to use that with the MSG, etc. so I used one little plastic container of the Knorr Homestyle concentrated stock instead that has no additives. This probably also helped cut down on the salt issue that a lot of reviews complained about. Since I didn't use the bouillon I was sure to add some salt as well so that it didn't come out bland (I just used some Montreal steak spice). I served with shanghai noodles instead of rice and that was great.

Marie's Easy Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2013
This turned out nice. Only change I made (as suggested by others) was to use beef broth instead of water. Used some of the liquid at the end to make gravy.

Vegetarian Chickpea Sandwich Filling

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2014
This was pretty good. The only change I made was to make it VEGAN, so I used Veganaise instead of mayo. It's versatile, so next time I think I will try adding different veggies. I used this on spelt bread and it was tasty, and there was lots left over for the next lunch. It will probably be even better then once the dill absorbs into everything.

Slow Cooker Cilantro Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2014
This was a huge hit at my house. And it was so quick to throw together. Based on all the comments about it being too salty I also made my own taco seasoning using the 'Taco Seasoning I' recipe on this site (which took only a minute to make). It turned out perfect. The salsa I used was Old El Paso Restaurant Style Salsa Picante.

Master Pizza Dough

This was pretty good. I followed the recipe exact (used the active dry yeast). This crust is good for the BBQ as it holds together great on a BBQ pizza pan.

Bob's Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2014
I agree exactly as some others said...that this is really good except I found the tahini a bit to strong for my liking. Next time I will scale it back, but it's still a great dressing.

Pork Roast with Sauerkraut and Kielbasa

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2014
This was great! We spent all weekend eating it. I followed recipe with the exception of adding about 3/4 cup of lager (Harp was what I had on hand) as recommended by other users. Not sure if it made any difference but I couldn't taste lager and I was nervous about there not being enough liquid. I cooked on high for 2 hours then on low the rest and the meat was nice and tender. Had no issues with kielbasa turning to mush, but where I come from we take our kielbasa seriously and it's available at all stores so maybe the quality makes a difference?? Not sure, but it held together nicely. I made sure to get one with no additives so perhaps that made the difference. Definitely will make this again. And as other users have said...if you don't like sauerkraut - do not make this!

Quinoa Black Bean Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2014
This was just okay. I followed exact except I added quick oats instead of bread crumbs as that's what I had on hand. Basically I just found it bland, but I did make my own avocado spread and some hot sauce and they were awesome like that. So, with all the good stuff in them, I would make them again but make sure to add some zest whether it's in the paddies or as a topping.

Chicken with Quinoa and Veggies

This will be one of my usual meals going forward. It was delicious and even my picky 6 year old ate the quinoa. That in itself makes this recipe amazing.

Quinoa and Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2014
Wow I was surprised how yummy this turned out to be. I've always been hesitant because I thought quinoa would be bland, but this was great. I am no vegetarian, but I would make this over a meat chilli any day. Only variation I did based on other reviews was to cook the quinoa in chicken broth. With any quinoa dish I've made, that seems to make a world of difference with the taste. I used to use water then was put of quinoa for a long time because it was so bland.

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2014
This cake was excellent. I followed it exactly with the exception of adding slightly more milk (as suggested by others) and some chocolate chips (I'm a chocolate addict). I had no issues with it crumbling or resembling corn bread. I think the main thing as many have stated is you MUST WHIP THE BUTTER, SUGAR THEN EGGS UNTIL IT IS CREAMY. That appears to be key and worked like a charm. This will be my go-to vanilla cake. I topped it off with whipped cream and strawberries. Yum!
