Easy Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
Very good basic cobbler recipe! I had been looking for a long time for a recipe that was close in texture to my grandma's. Most I have found have a pie like, or biscuit like topping. I only gave 4 stars because the first time I made it it cam out a smidge bland. The batter was a little too sweet and didn't taste like much. I also thought the fruit part was a little boring. The second time I added 1/4tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp almond extract to the batter. I also prepared my fruit the way I would for a pie. (Tossed it in a bit of sugar and cornstarch. These slight additions resulted in the perfect cherry cobbler that took be back to my Grandma's kitchen.

Mini Cheesecakes III

Awesome!!! I LOVE cheesecake but only make it for special occasions because I really do not need to eat an entire cheesecake. So nice to have a recipe I can easily make ANYTIME when I need my cheesecake fix!

Homemade Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2011
As written this recipe is just average. It serves as a good base, but is much improved with just a couple of changes. I made two batches, one following the recipe exactly the next with changes. And the one with changes was much more well received. On the second batch I used crunchy peanut butter, honey in place of the corn syrup and about half the brown sugar. I also used chopped slivered almonds instead of sunflower seeds, and dried cherries instead of raisins.

Jewish Apple Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
Great recipe for a great cake! Would be a 5 star with a few minor modifications. My cake fell apart when taking out of the pan, and I think it is because of the apple layer in the middle, also the cake was very moist, but lacked a little something. 1st) Alter the directions to cream together the oil, sugar, and eggs. Mix the dry ingredients together then add alternately with the orange juice. 2nd) The batter was a bit too much for my 10inch bundt pan, fits better in a 9x13 cake pan 3rd) Mix a bit of additional cinnamon in with the cake batter 4th) Dice the apples instead of slices, and fold into the batter instead of as a layer in the middle of the cake.

Chili Seasoning Mix II

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2010
In my opinion this recipe as written is not good at all! The flour is completely un neccesary and actually makes the chilli taste like flour. There should be double the amount of chili powder, and some cayenne pepper as well

Magic Peanut Butter Middles

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2010
FYI this technique can be used with any cookie dough. I originally learned this recipe from the JIF website where it calls for a tube of peanut butter cookie dough (with the same sugar/peanut butter middle) I have since tried it with sugar cookies, chocolate chip, and the break and bake brownies.

Love this recipe! Sometimes I make it with cheese tortellini instead of the spirals and leave the provolone out.

Grandma's Moist Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2010
Good tasting cake, but not moist at all. It is more dry and crumbly than I expected. The problem is that the recipe calls for all butter, not a butter/oil combo.

Pancakes I

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2010
Great texture to these pancakes Perfectly light and fluffy!! The flavor is lacking a little though. I tried the cinnamon/vanilla addition and wasn't fond of the flavor of that either. Today I made them and instead of oil I added in about 1/2 of a large banana that I mashed with a fork. EXCELLENT!

No Bake Chocolate Oat Bars

Reviewed: May 18, 2010
As written these bars are just okay - take the advice of previous reviews and cut the butter to 3/4 cup. My family thought that the peanut butter flavor was a bit overwhelming. So my final recipe include using rolled oats not the quick kind, 3/4 c butter, 1/2 c raisins & 1/2 tsp cinnamon in with the oats, 1 1/4 c choc chips, 1/4 c peanut butter.

Chocolate Cream Pudding

This was a little too sugary sweet for my tastes. I made a second version with 3/4 c sugar and 2 1/2 squares of chocolate and came up with a more pleasing version

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2010
ABSOLUTELY the BEST banana muffin I have ever eaten! My family raved about them, especially the crumb topping. I only made two alterations - I used canola oil instead of the melted butter - and secondly I mashed 2 of the bananas, the third I chopped and folded into the batter.

Cream Cheese Cookie Cups

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
Make sure you spray your muffin tins with non stick spray or they will be almost impossible to remove from the pan! I was in a hurry and didn't feel like making the cream cheese mixture, I filled them with the pre-made cheese cake filling (sold in tubs with the cream cheese section) Also made a batch with sugar cookie dough, and key lime cheesecake filling.

Broccoli and Ramen Noodle Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
GREAT Recipe to have in your arsenal. When I make this, I do a couple of things differently. 1st...I use two bags of broccoli slaw, and one package of BEEF Ramen noodles. I also add two tablespoons of soy to the dressing. Lastly I use slivered almonds instead of peanuts. DO NOT COOK the noodles. They are suppossed to be crushed and added to the salad uncooked! One more thing...i mix the dressing and add it to the slaw & green onions and let it sit for a while in the fridge but I dont add in the noodles and nuts etc until about 30 min before serving.
