City Chicken

This is a good basic recipie- don't be afraid to add spices to your liking! I usually add garlic powder and a pinch of cyanne pepper to the flour. Just like some of the other posters, I use the spice & flour/egg/breadcrumb method. I am also used to pan frying in oil, but chicken stock is a great idea! My city chicken came out great! PS- this HAS to be a local title for this dish. I'm in the NEOH area also and came looking for "city chicken"... this is the only result I got for me search :)

Cake Mix Cookies IV

Love the simpleness of this recipie... I used BC Butter Pecan. I rolled the cookies in cinnamon sugar and then topped them all by pressing a pecan half into the tops! Yum! The baking time was interesting... I made 4 dozen cookies and each tray baked for about 10 minutes at 350*. The longer the dough rested, the poofier my cookies became! The last batch was very airy. Maybe I over mixed the batter???

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

I started with a leftover pork roast and onions... simmed the shredded pork in a can of Dr. Pepper on the stovetop for about an hour. Then I added BBQ sauce (his favorite brand, but not mine!) and added spices to make it pop a bit more (parsley, garlic and chili pepper). It is WONDERFUL. I will totally make again! Plus, this was my first try at pulled pork!

Cinnamon Syrup

I took an extra step and added 1/2 cup chopped pecans that I had toasted in a frying pan with 1 tablespoon of butter... Yum! Gave a nice touch of crunch :) I didn't add the pecans until after the syrup had started to thicken slightly. My family loved it, too!

Tammy's Tempting Cheese Ball

It's a great guide for starters... I did not use as written (I don't care too much for ranch) but the measurements worked wonderfully as I subbed onion mix for ranch, walnuts for almonds, mexican for cheddar. Mix and match what you have in the cupboard! I was worried it would be too sticky (too much liquid) but it was great!

Festive Shortbread Logs

Super easy shortbread. Not overly sweet, which is what I wanted. Wonderful butter taste! I was pressed for time so I just lined up all the cookies and flung the chocolate on top.. um, I mean, I drizzled it carefully, ha! Looked as good as they tasted!

White Sauce for Pasta

Good. Second time I was missing ingredients... so I used real butter, no buds, chicken stock, and 2% milk. Also spiced it up with sauteed (sp?) garlic and onion. MUCH better!

Sweet Potato and Apple Casserole

MommyFromSeattle's suggestions make this one a keeper! Not overly sugary sweet like the other "sweet potatoe casseroles", yuck. This one rocks! Plus, I feel a little healthier eating it :)

Bok Choy, Carrots and Green Beans

Great starting point for a main dish... I had bought bok choy for the first time and wasn't crazy about it raw. I did like the flavor much better after using it in this recipe! I also added previously cooked chicken chunks and some pineapple chunks. Oh, and I subbed chicken broth obviously instead of veggie. Mmmmm.

Throw Together Mexican Casserole

Not exactly my fav. But it's HUSBAND APPROVED. (& his buddies raved about the leftovers for lunch) So it gets 5 stars! I served with cornbread and topped with sour cream. Def doesn't look pretty, but it was easy and tasty!

Apple Bread

I added 3/4 cup of additional chopped apples... used sauce instead of oil... and no nuts (for company's sake)... baked in a 9x13" 'til toothpick came out clean and edges started to pull away(about 30-35 minutes)... YUMMY =)

California Italian Wedding Soup

GREAT starter recipe! I used spinach instead of escarole, doubled everything except the broth (oops, more like stew), added celery and all fresh herbs, switched breadcrumbs for stale cracker crumbles, and then realized I didn't have orzo. So I used rice instead! I do think I'd add shedded chicken when I make this again. Yum!

Stuffed Peppers

I changed it quite a bit... but I couldn't find a recipe that rang home. This recipe had the correct ratios to get me started. I crock potted it! Fresh herbs, no worcestershire, par-boiled rice (cooled then added to RAW meat), 24oz of last year's garden sauce. Good flavor!

Banana Oatmeal Crumb Cake

For the people complaining that this recipe lacked in flavor, I have some ideas: Use REAL butter, GOOD vanilla, and BROWN bananas... the more ripe your bananas, the better. This is a very good, moist cake with a crumbly top. Reminded me of a coffee cake style. I used whole wheat flour, and had to add about 1/4 cup applesauce as my bananas only made 3/4 cup.
