Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: May 3, 2011
Definitely not the best cc cookies, but pretty fair. Followed the recipe to a t, my oven took 12 minutes to bake. Even after 12 minutes, they stayed rather white. Overall, a mediocre turnout.

Thai Green Curry Prawns

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2010
4 stars with my addition of 2 tsp fish sauce and about 1/2 of the coconut milk. I felt it was a good base recipe, but wasn't at it's best without the fish sauce.

Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2010
Not the best dressing I've made. The flavor balance was off. It was very tangy, and didn't have a strong mustard flavor, despite the name.

Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2010
These were good, but unfortunatly not peanut buttery enough. The taste was more like chocolate chip with a slight hint of peanut butter. The texture and chewiness was excellent. If I try it again, I will add more peanut butter, probably a full cup and not add the 2 Tb. water.

Pie Crust III

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2010
4 1/2 Stars! (1/2 star missing for lack of butter taste) This was surprisingly wonderful. I've never made pie crust without butter. (I did add 1/2 tsp. of salt - Food without any amount of salt is a sin in my book) I was very skeptical how this would taste, but it was great. Very Very flaky and delicious. Great to make when all you have is oil on hand!

Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
This was a good base, various spices were used, but it was missing something (besides salt) The end result was almost more of a mole rather than enchilada sauce. It definitly did taste authentic though.

Cream Puff Shells

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
Very good. Just as I remembered... One thing though, is you should crack the oven after the pastry is done for an hour or so to prevent falling.

Chicken Satay with Homemade Peanut Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2010
This was pretty good. This was nearly identical to the mandarin chicken sauce that a favorite chinese restaurant serves.

Buffalo Wontons

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2010
These were okay. I still preferred the filling without the wonton, served with chips.

Zucchini Corn Fritters

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2010
Beware- this makes A LOT! I made this as written and found it to be a little bland. It definitley needed some seasoning. There was still about 4 cups of batter left over after I made the first batch, so for the rest, I added a tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp garlic powder and 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper. They were MUCH better.

Cheesy Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: May 24, 2010
4.5/5 - AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. This is good. I can't fully give it the 5 stars, because it looks unappealing. Truly. But, put the looks aside and this is the bomb.

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: May 17, 2010
If you're looking for Southern cornbread, this isn't it at all. This is most definitly Yankee cornbread. Needs more sugar. I had high hopes for this one. It looked great, smelled great but tasted bland. I was definitly less than impressed. It didn't go over well at all for dinner. If you DO decide to make this recipe, be aware this makes ALOT of cornbread. (And add some sugar too!)

White Cake Frosting I

Reviewed: May 9, 2010
I can't give this exact recipe the ratings, but after leaving out the butter powder and substituting it with the real stuff, this buttercream was pretty good. The texture was light and fluffy and STAYED fluffy, not turning stiff when exposed to the air for a while like buttercream without the crisco added. But in my opinion, there's too much shortening in this recipe. The icing had a greasy quality. I made it again using 1/2 butter and 1/2 crisco and it was perfect. You can see how it looked in the photos...(the cake with the Island theme)

Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
These were okay, but it didn't floor me. I liked the addition of bacon. The cheese was ultimatley lost though. I didn't taste it at all, even with sharp cheddar. One drawback is that when piping the filling into the eggs even with a huge star tip, the bacon bits get stuck inside and can't use the piping bag. I made these twice and the second time, I added some minced chives and I liked it better.

Bourbon Pecan Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2010
Ces't tres bon! I can't say enough about this dish. This is TRULY a 5 star dish suitable for a 5 star restaurant! I don't give out 5 stars very often. Very few dishes deserve it, but this one earned its gold stars. Very simple to prepare but exceptionally tasty!

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2010
A definite 5 star recipe! This was exceptional. Everyone who had it couldn't believe how phenomenal it tasted. This was a restaurant quality dish. I however did NOT use Arborio. I used medium grain white rice and it was still fantastic. Although, it DID take about 30 minutes to cook. I prior to this did not eat mushrooms, but this I enjoyed. I will keep this recipe and make this again and again.

Fun Cookie Suckers

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2010
These came out cute. They weren't the pain to make that some users said. I also thought that 1 c. of sugar was not going to be enough so I increased to 1 1/2 c. They were good. I'd also advise to be wary of where you place the stick, because nearly all of mine fell out the back. Place them more in the top half of the cookie's height since they will expand upwards anyway.

Cheesy Zucchini Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2010
Can't give it any more stars because for me the taste fell flat. It had a good flavor but something was definitly missing even with the black and red pepper I added. But it was an interesting departure for typical zuke dishes. I also would have liked the texture better if I had thinly sliced the zuchinni rather than the 1/2" cubes.

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2010
OK, you've earned the coveted 5 stars! This was great! I did add the additional spices minus white pepper since I don't like pepper. I did mix in half the sugar per user suggestions, but did ADD the OTHER HALF ALSO since I didn't find it sweet enough. The taste is very much on par with Oregon Chai brand. But my usual brand (Mocafe Precious Divinity Spiced Chai) is still head and shoulders above this one. BUT for the price, you definitly cannot go wrong. Precious Divinity goes for $9.00 for 12 oz. can of powder. I will gladly use this mix. Maybe add some madagascar vanilla to it as P.D. does. As for the spices sinking, I didn't care at all. UPDATE - I've made it several times now, and YES the Cardamaom makes a HUGE difference when it's in!!
