Pesto

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2014
Very easy to make. This makes enough for 3 different occasions (or 3 boxes of pasta). I added salt, pepper, and extra garlic. I added the parsley too. I cooked one batch with sauteed cherry tomatoes with garlic over penne. I froze the other 2 batches to enjoy another time. I will double recipe next time as it is a pain to wash the processor parts for just 3 meals.

Angel's Ravioli Alfredo with Mushrooms

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2014
Great recipe. I used Bertolli Alfredo sauce with aged parmesan. I did not use green onions and added more mushrooms as well as fresh spinach, italian seasoning, and white wine. This is a great recipe for the frozen ravioli and gnocchi I buy at Costco.

Sesame Pasta Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 20, 2012
Excellent base recipe. I made changes to this based on the reviews. Used olive oil instead of the vegetable oil and cut to 1/3 cup. Subbed Splenda for the sugar. Added broccoli slaw, shredded celery, used regular soy sauce, Publix chicken tenders, added lemon juice and julienned red and yellow peppers. Also added a little of the McKormick sesame ginger marinade for extra flavor.

Love it. I use canned pinto beans and do not drain. I also add a pinch of Adobo seasoning.

Fettuccine Alfredo V

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2011
This has a 5 star taste but the egg ended up sticking with the cheese into a gooey mess so it gets 4 stars. I followed directions to a T and also used the good parmesan cheese. I think the problem was the timing of adding the egg. It really needs to be added at the last minute right before mixing sauce with the pasta. Will do that next time...or just thicken with flour instead of using egg. I added mushrooms and prosciutto which I sauteed with the butter. Garlic amount was great just as stated in recipe. Oh, I also used fat free half and half. This was not to blame though since the sauce was perfect until I added the egg :-)

Spicy Yellow Rice and Smoked Sausage

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2011
Great recipe! I added homemade sofrito and used Goya Adobo seasoning instead of italian seasoning. Also added chopped cilantro at end for extra flavor.

Love it, made this with Goya yellow rice. While cooking added the beans, corn, cumin, and Goya Adobo. Left out the lime juice.

Thick-Style Lebanese Garlic Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
Love the flavor but the amount of oil in this is a heart attack waiting to happen. Do use less olive oil and more vegetable oil since the olive oil flavor can overwhelm the sauce. I added 1 egg but even with this, did not get the mayonnaise consistency I was looking for. This makes a ton. I wanted to make less but you have to keep adding oil to get it thicker so in the end, you will get a lot of sauce.

Tabbouleh III

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
Loved it! Per other reviews, I used less water to soak the bulgur- a little over 1 cup. Also, I used less oil and more lemon. I thought this recipe had too much bulgur. Next time I will just increase the other ingredients to balance it out. This tastes even better the next day. Highly recommend!

Great recipe! Per other reviews I used less tahini and added cumin. No need to buy the store hummus anymore.

Shish Tawook Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2011
OMG this recipe is the BOMB! Made it last night and now eating the few leftovers. Cardamon is expensive, cost me $10 but it was worth it to be able to make these kabobs at home. Followed the recipe to a T except for adding a little mint, cayenne, and turmeric; chicken was very tender, it does make a lot of sauce so next time I will just add more chicken. Served this with Tabbouleh III, Hummus III, and the Lebanese Garlic Sauce from this site. Had an awesome meal! No more need to drive 20 miles to the Lebanese restaurant.

Chicken Enchilada Soup III

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2010
Better than Chili's! I used more chicken broth instead of water. I also added tomatoes & green pepper and used a mexi-cheese blend as well as added a can of mixed corn & black beans. I topped this with sour cream, green onions,l cheese, and tortilla strips.

Golden State Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
I give props to the previous reviews... I too added fresh garlic and white wine. This made the difference. I suggest reducing the amount of pepper and flour as well. I do not like having a flour taste in my soup so had to add more milk and puree soup a little with an immersion blender to make it thicker. Also, I will double next time... this will only be enough for 1 plate for each of the 4 of us. I always like to have left overs when something tastes this good!

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
I gave it 5 stars because it is a good base recipe. I added italian seasoning and also mixed mozzarella cheese throughout. Also I added fresh tomatoes and mushrooms. I was wary about adding the milk but it did add a welcome creamy consistency.

Ropa Vieja (Cuban Meat Stew)

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2010
This was time consuming but worth it! It smelled great and the meat was so tender and delicious! The only Goya ingredients I used were Adobo, Sazon, and capers. My can opener broke so I did could not use tomato sauce and subbed with ketchup instead. Also I used my own home-made sofrito (FIVEBRIGS recipe on this site). I did not have olives so omitted it. I know this is not traditional but I love potatoes and carrots with this beef so I added some diced pieces to the pot during last 30 min of cooking. Word of caution, braising the beef caused a lot of smoke and oil splatter. Not sure if this step is necessary. Also, if your pot gets black at the bottom like mine did after cooking the beef, deglaze with some wine or water and clean with a paper towel and you're in business again. I paired this with Puerto Rican steamed rice by FIVEBRIGS on this site. Also had the Goya frozen maduros but will make my own next time.

Sofrito

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
This is the definitive sofrito recipe! This was my first time ever making sofrito. I ended up making more than the recipe, most of which I froze. I could not find the ajies dulces so omitted them. I used a hand blender and it worked! It would have been too time consuming to blend each batch in blender as I do not have a food processor. I also added olive oil and (1) packet of Sazon Goya with achiote. First dish I made with this was Arroz Junto (not on this website) with smoked sausage and pinto beans. It is true, the smell is out of this world when cooking with sofrito. Thanks FIVEBRIGS!

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
Best roast I have ever made... I used a McKormick envelope of pot roast mix to season the roast. After cooking at high temp, I turned the oven down to 250 for 2 hours. I then made a mushroom gravy using some of the pan juices... delicious!

Country Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
This will now be one of my go to recipes for green beans. First I sauteed some bacon with the chopped onions and after the onions were translucent, I added everything else. Great thing about using bacon, besides the fact that it add greats flavor, you can use less salt and butter.

Cheesy Broccoli and Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
This is the definitive broccoli soup recipe. Other than using fresh vegetables (because they were on sale) and pureeing the soup at the end (because I have a 1 and 3 year old), I followed this recipe to a tee. I felt like I was in the Prego commercial when cooking this- I wanted to add spices but could not think of anything as it was perfect as is. My kids loved this. Thanks for sharing Bryanne, this is a keeper!
