Chef John's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2013
I like to add a few handfuls of chopped kale when I boil the noodles OR I add thawed spinach before stiring in the cheese. It adds an extra layer of flavor and more color.

Yum! I didn't have pine nuts or green onions but I did add some fresh kale while frying the onions and barley. Extra healthy and very delicious!!!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2010
Fantastic! My husband and I loved this recipe. We had it with homemade chili from this site (It's Chili by George!!). I reduced the sugar and baked it in a preheated cast iron skillet. It makes a beautiful, thick, heavy cornbread that holds up well to dipping in chili.

Absolutely wonderful! We like this even better with chopped sweet onions, fresh brown mushrooms and a little thyme.

Southern Fried Chicken Livers

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
My new husband suggested trying chicken livers for dinner one evening and I thought he was kidding. Who eats chicken liver??? Anyway, I smiled figuring we would try them once and never need to eat them again. Ha! I didn't like the first one, but the more I ate, the more I craved. This recipe is wonderful! They go very well with rice and a simple steamed vegetable.

Hot Chocolate Mix II

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Yum! My husband and I made a double batch of this and packed it in pint jars with a layer of mini chocolate chips. We tied a few strands of raffia around each jar and attached two hand-made tags with directions and a Christmas greeting then gave them as gifts. Many of our relatives and friends are tired of sweets by the end of December, but this hot chocolate will last all winter. It was a big hit! Thanks! Oh, DEFINITELY add the much better.
